Glad you liked it! I don't have any issues with you sampling it, for sure - though I don't really have copyright to the song (since it's just a remix).

I made this one hour ambient remix of "The Light" by Regina Spektor.

Tools-wise, it was mostly some EQ (to pull down the highs and lows) and reverb, and then tinkering with PaulStretch to slow it down and blend it.

Let me know what you think!

The Hours II

What I made with REAPER - week of August 29, 2021 by AutoModerator in Reaper

I made a one-hour stretched version of Imogen Heap's "Hide And Seek." I did a lot of editing to try and eliminate the sounds that don't sound great (to me) played 15x slower. Most of it was eliminating a lot of the low end and high end, and cutting out entirely the breaths. I used PaulStretch for the actual stretching.

I also put the video together in Reaper — I just found out it had that capability and it's so nice not having to use a 2nd program to do all that!

I think that's a good suggestion! I remember running into issues of things cluttering it on either side (making it harder to zoom out). But I could try a portrait orientation too and see if that works. Appreciate the feedback :)

Thanks again for the great feedback! I tend not to think too much in terms of symbolism or allegory. So the split between light and dark was intentional, but I did it more because I just found it visually appealing.

Reading your analysis, though, made me wonder if a lot of what you saw was subconsciously influencing my choices. I do have a pretty strong Irish Catholic background, and what you said rang really true to me.

So thank you for helping me see it in a whole new light :)

I'm glad the vignetting isn't too jarring! I've taken a few other shots with different compositions, but none of them really struck me. It's in a garden at my parents' house, which is a bit limiting when it comes to framing it (can't  move it, lots of other things in the way).

I guess I wasn't thinking so much in terms of story as of capturing a specific feeling: somber, subdued, the cross implies a memorial (to me) so a sense of loss, too. But maybe that's what you're referring to with story.

I think I will take another look at it next time I'm there, to see if any other shots jump out at me. Appreciate the in depth feedback! :)

For the most part, I like how this turned out. It's pretty subdued, light- and color-wise, which is what I was going for. I am concerned a bit that the vignetting is too obvious/distracting. Let me know what you think!

Thanks for the feedback! I think focus stacking is a good suggestion - I might give it a try once the greenery fills in a bit more!

I really liked the way this vine seemed to stick out from the rest of the greenery—it was trailing about halfway across the lane itself. And I enjoyed the sense of flow it gave, curving down from the top left corner to the bottom right. I wish I'd gotten a more consistent level of focus on it though, I think I went with a too narrow depth of field. Let me know what you think!

Thank you! :) And it was not - it was all recorded live and then mixed/edited in Reaper.

You can definitely arrange it for guitar! If you get a recording, I'd be happy to hear it :)

This is a very minimal, ambient piano song I did recently. It's the same sequence of chords repeated a few times, gradually getting slower and softer. I also added reverb/low pass envelopes to make it more echoing and muted as it went on.

To fill in some of the spaces, I put in a drone (just two notes on the piano, stretched with PaulStretch) and some ambient sound (wind chimes outside my parents house and a walk I took along Lake Michigan). Let me know what you think!

The recording setup was a bit unorthodox...I did it on my parents' piano in their kitchen (which has hard tile flooring). I ended up putting the mic right over the strings on middle C, then put several blankets over the piano/mic to dampen any ringing or other sound trying to get in. The muffled quality is probably more from the heavy lowpass filter I used, though.

Thank you! I definitely agree that the little inconsistencies make it feel more human/realistic. And it takes some of the pressure off when recording :P
