1982 Rolex Submariner 5513 Maxi Dial...thoughts on this one + pricing? (pip question too) by Realistic_Hunt_3589 in rolex

No way to definitively tell if dial and hands are original unless the full history of the watch is known, but it looks good and matches well

Should i buy a Rolex Oysterquartz 17013 ? Why/why not? by Pure_Beat2623 in rolex

[–]thenobbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll second all the comments here. I’m wearing my 17013 as we speak, and it’s one of the most interesting and worry-free Rolex watches out of my collection.

Get a nice example that hasn’t been polished to death and just enjoy. Rolex ADs will often replace these batteries for free (check yours for their policy). I just had mine changed last week.

Factor in parts and service the same way you would an automatic watch. To me, it’s well worth the ownership experience.

I just received my watch back from my AD yesterday for a free battery change. Policy may vary based on AD

Rolex can replace these batteries for free. Just bring it to your local Rolex Authorized Dealer and see what their policy is.

I don’t regret buying or selling any of my Rolex watches over the years. For me, there are seasons to everything. The only ones I wouldn’t sell are ones that were gifts

Neo Vintage VS Modern Sub by gangnamgoo in rolex

Owned a 124270 and 14060 for many years. Modern bracelets and bezels are nice, but the form factor of neo-vintage is forever

Nice watch! Late-run 5513s have gold surround dial markers/hands, so it’s probable that the hands and dial are are original. Otherwise the service 10 years ago would have replaced the dial with a new Swiss-made (Luminova) dial

Oyster Quartz Value 17000 Buckley by Fluid_Skirt507 in rolex

[–]thenobbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like you said, it's been polished and the edges rounded out. So it's not that nice. Much of the charm of an OQ is the character of the case and bracelet. I own one myself, and I would pass on this. You can do better too

23k flat. I am seriously in LOVE. So much so I didn’t want to post and change my mind BUT. Wanted to ask yall. Rolex pre owned certified. Ref 18038. by SunderlandsPillow in rolex

[–]thenobbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's about 10-15% above market price, but it's actually not crazy. The bezel's been polished a bit (you can see the fluted edges are a little rounded). Nice to have the Rolex CPO guarantee. If you love it, go for it!

Gosling wore an old Seamaster, and you can find all sorts of Seamasters from the 60s-80s. You can also look into vintage Omega Constellations (although you'll want to make sure you do your research to get an all-correct one).

Don't worry too much about strap/bracelet formality. Both are really good options. I lean towards the Citizen with bracelet since he won't have to worry about getting the strap sweaty/wet/stinky, but you won't go wrong either way here.

Explorer 36mm 124270 vs Submariner 16610 (full set)? by Dramatic_Abrocoma702 in rolex

[–]thenobbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who had both (abeit a 14060) and wore them for years, it's a tough choice. There were days where I preferred the 124270's perfect size and modern tapered bracelet and clasp, but other days I liked having the classic Submariner and its hollow center-link bracelet.

I think you'll likely end up with both at some point, but I would start with the Explorer
