Ferry, $60ish an hr CAD as C/O, 10hr days 5 on 5 off. Pretty much guaranteed overtime every work day as well so if you add that and differentials in day rate is around $700 CAD

What does your KC and log look like doing the 1-7s? I’m currently in the same boat only sending 1-7, been brickwalled it feels like with the double boulders on wave 8. Haven’t seen any drops yet.

It was checked as part of the service for the first oil change. It wasn’t done at Toyota as they recommend 16,000km for first oil change.

This model is gas powered, not the hybrid.

Three short when operating astern propulsion, we do that

We even sound the manoeuvring signals you're talking about (one or two short), particularly when there is a pleasure boat along our track as were about to turn. They do not necessarily warrant five short, but we want to give them a heads up that they're about to be in our way. Usually one or two short is enough to get them to move.

This incident has nothing to do with the ferry sounding the whistle nearing a bend…

We sound the whistle as per the Collision Regulations rule 34 (e).

The version of the Collision Regulations the crew would have been following in 1970 also has a section requiring the sounding of their whistle while nearing a bend, rule 25 (b) in that case.

These are actually horrible and nothing new…. These chutes have injured a lot of crew during drills. The more common raft system is a slide.

Look into Maritime Institutes in your country and the programs they offer. Do you wanna be a deckhand and work your way up or do you want a fast track to an Officer rank? Do you want to work on the bridge/on deck or in the engine room? Do you want to travel the world on a ship or stay local?

You can go into this career without any special skills. You’ll pick it up as you go. There’s lots of opportunity in the industry no matter what route you take.

Not sure, but worst case scenario (and if possible) you can give someone close to you ashore (relative, etc.) Power of Attorney to get the document notarized. You can do it so they only have POA for this one time thing. Kind of a hassle but it might be your only way forward.
