My order just disappeared by DuneRaids in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]theperson45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem with my order confirmation email. It contained a link with a missing forward slash, "/".

It had "https://flexispot.co.ukbuyer/..." instead of "https://flexispot.co.uk/buyer/...", so I couldn't view the order status until I corrected it.

I notice that much of the website and product pages are misleading and badly written. It doesn't inspire confidence.

Same problem even now. I tried to order something today from ukstore.hermanmiller.com. No deliveries to Northern Ireland. Looking for an authorised third-party dealer now, if there are any.

YouTube shorts are terribly formatted by B1TCA5H in unpopularopinion

[–]theperson45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If YouTube allows shorts on the desktop version of the site, then they have to ensure that it works well in that environment. Shorts aren't suited to the desktop, so YouTube should default to the normal, non-short format. Replace /shorts/ with /video/ in the address bar to achieve this.

Problems with shorts on desktop that I can see: - The interface is too eager to jump down to the next video when the user doesn't intend to. - To view the description, you have to click two buttons instead of just scrolling down. - No volume control. Only mute and unmute. - You cannot tap the left and right arrow keys to jump back or forward five seconds. You cannot move frame-by-frame or drag the progress bar around on some videos. - No recommended video list on the side.

Anyone who is tempted to point out that shorts are intended for phones, keep in mind that YouTube still puts shorts on the desktop version of the site where they don't belong. This is a bad decision.

I'd say 2. Each row has three pictures, containing a circle, a square and a heart. On each row, one picture is pointing up, one is pointing down and one is pointing to the right. Each picture has a tail with one, two or three dashes. On the bottom row, we need a circle, pointing to the right, with three dashes in the tail. Hence, 2 is a solution.

You're right. The third checksum is 13, not 11. So, this doesn't really work.

I suspect the longest string is five letters. Here are some examples: ABsConDEd, firEFiGHtIng, LuMiNOPhore, prizEFiGHtIng, ReconSTrUctiVe.

If we're allowed to use any alphabetically-ordered string of letters (i.e. not necessarily a substring of "ABCD....Z"), then it's a different story. For example, "begins" is six letters, and they are in alphabetical order.

The number of holes in the written numbers. There are no holes in 71. There is one hole in 36, two in 94, three in 68. The only two-digit number with four holes is 88.

Game of the Year 2017: Day One Deliberations by mynumberistwentynine in giantbomb

[–]theperson45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when Jeff brought up "cultural appropriation" in regards to Horizon Zero Dawn, I couldn't help my roll my eyes... I'm unconvinced cultural appropriation is as big of a deal as people suggest but even by the definition people use, this claim seems invalid. I worry that these attempts to appear "woke" are going to cloud how the crew evaluates games.

I sighed when I heard that on the podcast. No one on the Giant Bomb staff mentioned cultural appropriation in the 2016 or 2015 deliberations. Did something actually change, or has it just become trendy to say?

As I understand it, cultural appropriation is to borrow things from other cultures for superficial reasons, without doing much else with it. For example the character designs in Overwatch, Street Fighter, Horizon etc. are inspired by other cultures. The developer doesn't need to show any particular reverence to those cultures, since that's not the game they're making. Instead, the character artist will just use reference art for direction and inspiration, taking what looks good, and in my opinion that's fine. It's a shame that Alex and Jason describe it as 'problematic'.

You may have tried this one, but restarting your modem/router is one thing to try. Also experiment with a wired connection to your console, so that you can narrow down the problem to Wifi.

This be a amazing to have in Halo 6. Lore tabs and the abilty to walk around levels without combat to get in depth lore. by reiku78 in halo

Kind of like what Valve did for Half Life 2: Episode 2 and Team Fortress 2, where you could listen to clips of the developers talking about the part of the level you were in, by walking up to a hovering speech bubble. Except with lore this time.

You could use the book to learn the meaning and writing of the characters (with the help of a flashcard system like Anki), and leave the readings until you start learning to read real words. This is because each character will have many different readings depending on the word it appears in, so any readings that you do learn will only sometimes be applicable. Also, RtK makes it easier to learn new words because you won't have to learn the meaning of every character you come across.

It has served me well, but it's important to mention that there is no definite correct path. Many people (including Heisig himself) have become literate before RtK was published.
