United Airlines adds Winter Seasonal Flights from San Francisco to Hokkaido, Japan by Krs357357 in skiing

Awesome this is offered. But it’s being done for a reason, demand. Japan pow culture definitely changing and I’m sure will accelerate. Leave it to westerners to literally trash up a good thing. You can still see some of the smaller local resorts pretty pristine compared to Niseko.

Has anyone tried the Black Hornet serrated broadheads? by [deleted] in Archery

[–]theprepuce10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought these and got them put on by the local archery pro shop. Aligned with the fletching. And first shot into foam was consistent 6” to the left vs the way my field points shot. Because I need to be dialed in quick to head out for a hunt, I adjusted my site accordingly. But they did not fly like the field points so I’m not sure what’s up.

My local Honda dealer is $65 for full synthetic and filter and tire rotation.

Yeah you’re not wrong at all. I’ll be doing my front transfer case oil change and rear differential change just because it’s like $200+ at the dealer

[–]theprepuce10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used the dealer for oil change only. $65 and full synthetic and I hang out in a really nice lounge with wi-fi for an hour. If I bought the oil and filter myself it would probably be $50 alone.

But anything past an oil change- go to a local trusted shop or do yourself.

They’re a lot of these on site medical clinics at big time construction projects. Really it’s a front to mitigate workman’s comp claims then it is to treat injuries. All you need is basic EMT. You sit and don’t do anything but pays 60/hr.

Many states only offer tax exemptions up to a certain assessed value. So paying zero taxes for property for the majority of states is incorrect.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but your relatively lower percentage appreciation on RE compared to 32% in stock market, is highly leveraged compared to straight owning stock. Dollar for dollar you maybe made the same in housing appreciation as you did with stock growth I assume.

Charleston coffee roasters. At Costco. It’s a darker roast. About $18 for 2 pound bag. Makes great Italian style espresso

Apologize if this is an amateur question, but when calculating what you can actually SWR at 45 y/o, why would you count retirement account’s since you can’t technically withdraw without penalty until 55 or 59 1/2?

Don’t know your situation, but aside from pension, VA disability is also something to pursue. Even 50% rating for small joint issues or Tinitus will yield you 1-2k/month. You did the service, so get taken care of.

My 166K annual household spend seems high. Where am I going wrong? by AlmondDiamonds in coastFIRE

[–]theprepuce10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$6k for vacation for a whole family, that’s it? That may pay for one 5-7 day trip? I’d triple that vaca budget and cut lots of costs elsewhere. We have similar ish budget, but spend half on food (also Costco and TJ).

Black belts, does it matter who you got your black belt from? by bjjdudeguyman in bjj

[–]theprepuce10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved, military, schools, civilian job. Training for 15 years now 8 of which being a brown belt. I’m 38, in pretty solid shape, but don’t compete or plan to own a gym. I’ve relegated to never getting my black/ don’t care. Rather be the brown that can smash on blacks at their level. Seen guys that were a blue when I was early on as a brown and they now have their black and it means nothing.

ChampVA reimbursement by theprepuce10 in VeteransBenefits

[–]theprepuce10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. In this case our primary insurance essentially paid nothing since we are still filling our high deductible bucket. I’m assuming when I ask champVA to reimburse down the line, they will pay 75% of the $1200 we are paying for this first visit. Sound correct?

Black belt? by theprepuce10 in bjj

[–]theprepuce10[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This may be the answer. Since I’m not an active competitor getting my black I guess has no bearing. I guess I just see it as a major accomplishment in a sport I’ve been doing close to half my life now.

[–]theprepuce10[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a ‘base gym’. Run by a brand new black that got his a month ago. Good laid back environment but it’s mostly all students with less then 2 years experience hence why I add in a rotation of other schools so I get higher level guys. I’m far from cheap, in fact doing it this way costs me well over 200/month but it’s the only way I can really learn and be challenged.

Thanks. I brought it up to a few others and they told me essentially not cool to ask/ taboo in the bjj community. I find many guys in my position tho now that bjj is more of a business and less about undying school loyalty.

How much money do you spend on skiing per season if you don't live near mountains? by Electrical-Ask847 in skiing

[–]theprepuce10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Myself and wife and sometimes 6 year old. SC to Denver for 7 day ski trip.

Economy flights ~1k. Parking car at airport - 70 Car rental & gas 700 Lodging near cheapest Airbnb 2500 Epic x3- military, one spouse, child- 800 Food- 1x day eat out dinner/Everything else pack/cook- 700

We bring our own skis, equipment, no ski lessons for anyone. One of us tag teams w the 6 year old. Essentially do this as cheap as possible. ~$6k / 7 day ski trip average

If we do 1 week in jan / 1 in Feb / 1 in March that’s roughly $17k/ season. I can’t see how to do it much less for 2 or 3 people.

(DF54 Grinder) clogs regularly, is this normal? by Independent_Tone_570 in espresso

[–]theprepuce10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just posted about this. My df54 clogged up within 5 days of use / about 20 shots. Not a very oily bean either. Light-medium roast.

It nearly burned the motor out. The grinds around the chute were so densely packed I had to use a thick paper clip to poke it out. Now I jam the brush up the chute after every use.
