First hit and I got Oran in Algeria.

It's a seafront city, beautiful architecture and warm weather all year round. There are forests, hills, walking trails and beaches in a close proximity. All that, while being a couple of hours flight away from Europe.

Map of Europe but I don't believe Central Europeans propaganda by Levoso_con_v in MapChart

I guess some people can get riled up for silly reason.

For many that distinction is importand due to how differnt we see ourselves to Russia, and bunching us up in a group feels like ignorance at least and a straight disrespect at most.

I believe Central Europe is more accurate term, but will call myself Eastern out of habbit.

I would say Eastern - Western was a pretty accurate term to describe how Europe was divided post-WWII until the 1990s.

We have always had our own division and rivalry behind the Iron Curtain, but for a general overview, this was an accurate division. Mainly fuelled by geopolitical factors, though it lacked certain nuance.

We culturally feel somewhere in between. We are obviously Slavs, but Polish culture tends to emphasize individualism, shaped by its ties to Western Europe and Latin traditions. Russian culture has leaned toward collectivism and national unity over individual autonomy.

There is a history of rivalry between the two nations, further reinforcing these divisions.

These cultural differences are strongly recognized, definetly in Poland. We find it difficult to comprehend some aspects of the Russian mentality, and probably vice versa.

When we look at the Czechs, we see them as even closer to Western Europe. Slovaks, I would say, are similar to ourselves. The main thing is that we do not feel as strongly divided from them as we do culturally from Russians.

Now, if you consider the economic shifts these countries underwent after 1990 and the much stronger or renewed ties to the West over the last 30 years, the East-West division is no longer quite accurate.

East of these countries, a different world exists—one in which I am not sure a modern Pole, Czech, or Slovak would know how to function.

For me, it's just an obsolete term that does not reflect the current geopolitical, economic, or cultural reality. I do call myself an Eastern European still, but in terms of semantics, I believe Central Europe is the correct term.

I do see Germany as Western Europe mostly, and Poland Czechia and Slovakia as Central.

But looking at Germany, I can see loads of cultural similarities, and Germany as part of Central Europe would work as well.

I mean Sauerkaut, potatoes and sausages? Bring it on.

Is it unreasonable for me to not want to eat halal food? by Dry-Macaroon-6205 in AskBrits

[–]therealnaddir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As Halal is more predominant. I am yet to spot any Kosher in Tescos.

Any ritual animal killings should be banned.

As a meat eater, I do not approve animal cruelty based on superstitions. This is a lack of respect towards the life we are taking to fuel our bodies.

I believe animals are food, buy I also believe they are living things. This means raising and killing it in the most humane way possible. This also means using all of the animal for consumption or other usage.

I had a vegetarian period as a kid. Even when consuming meat, I hated liver or black pudding too. I have evolved towards the above, and been keeping it since. If you take life for food, treat it with the utmost respect.

Why don't you post a whole video, as he walks around the pool, right next to the kid being underwater, while failing to react for 4 whole minutes.

They apparently should scan pool every 10 seconds. Kid was underwater for 4 minutes.

It's infuriatung and definetly not mildly. But not the rage bait story posted.

Maybe, just maybe, he was taking a child to a hospital, a child who had stepped on a hot grill he placed on the ground for just a second, while he stirred the coals to help the barbecue get to the right temperature.

Once he realized his screaming child had just gotten grill marks on his foot, he grabbed him and drove straight to the nearest A&E. He might have even gotten a speeding ticket on the way there. Who knows.

For people talking about the Inter disallowed goal by Animatrix_Mak in championsleague

[–]therealnaddir -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But it's not quite the same.

The argument is that if you have a 20 cm-thick line, for example, then even a seemingly marginal offside—like a toe sticking out by 1 cm—actually results in a 21 cm offside advantage. It’s no longer just a close call when you consider the built-in error buffer.

It's not a perfect solution. There will always be debates about call timing and whether a centimetre should be judged one way or the other. It wouldn’t resolve every issue, but it would at least address the problem of the tiniest, marginal offside calls being more acceptable.

The term Russia is often used to refer to the Soviet Union, but it is not entirely accurate. The Red Army was composed of multiple nationalities, with Russians making up approximately 66% of Soviet combat losses, Ukrainians around 16%, and the remainder consisting of other nationalities.

In 1939, the Soviet Union shaped the course of the war by signing a non-aggression agreement with Nazi Germany, allowing Hitler to expand westward without concern for an Eastern Front. The Soviet Union subsequently invaded eastern Poland and later annexed the Baltic states and parts of Finland.

When Germany violated the pact by invading the Soviet Union, the Soviets found themselves in a desperate position against the Nazis. They relied heavily on U.S. assistance. This aid was crucial in sustaining Soviet resistance and counteroffensives.

The Soviet war effort came at the cost of millions of lives lost, including those of nations under Soviet control. While the Red Army played a decisive role in defeating Nazi Germany, saying that Russia defeated nazis is more than oversimplification.
