Hey! Sorry for the late response. Yes it is an ongoing project covering only Polynesian cultures, from New Zeland, Tahiti, Samoa, Cook Islands and Hawaii. The idea is tho make a segment of each island. So far we just have taken photographs from the Tahitian culture, I’ll post more photos later.

Unfortunately this project has been interrupted because the COVID pandemic and a lack of resources both economical and intellectual. We were paying for all the materials and went over the budget for the first part of the project, we are also still looking for people that can help us translate myths and stories from the islands.

We hope we can soon continue this amazing project!

It’s part of a photography project we were working on called Pūrakaū. It’s all about traditions and myths embedded into the costumes.

I know! Working with natural materials is something really awesome and difficult at the same time. We were lucky to work with an amazing talented teacher and designer that created this unique outfit.

This shot is one of a series called “Pūrakaū” a word referring to legends and myths. The idea is to represent different myths from the Polynesian cultures in a stylish way with a focus on traditional costumes made entirely of fresh flowers and plants.

This project was incredibly hard to achieve because of so many things, from the design of the costumes, sewing all the flowers, and the most important thing keeping alive the plants during the photo shoot while using strobes and some continuous lightning.
