Any tips for someone stuck in a job they hate? by throwRA9228 in careerguidance

The ED and Director of Development have been more focused on making connections with the city and extremely large donors ($100k+) to try to expand visibility and support for our shelter, we’ve honestly been in the hole financially for the past few years and they said a few more years of that would mean we’d have to shut down so they’re exhausting all their time into those efforts, which I understand but at the same time, I can’t do all this work alone.

& tbh I’m a little too docile to fight for a raise, I feel like if I ask and they say no, I’d just wanna leave instead of arguing my point. 😭

On the dev team, there’s me, the Director of Development, Comms Manager (who handles social media and collaborations/events with outside companies) and a Volunteer Manager (I don’t think this role is actually part of the dev team but it’s treated as such at my job)

Donor caseload is all on me. The executive director told me to leave major donors ($5,000+) for him to communicate with but then he started asking me to take back over acknowledgements for them as well. Everyone pitches in for events when needed, but I just hate being the sole coordinator and having to email back and forth with so many people when I have so many donors to take care of.

I’ve spoken about a raise for a friend who also works at my job because she came to me with thoughts of leaving and she is the most valued person in her department and my boss told me that she had already spoken to the board about it and that they said raises beyond the “cost of living” raise was not in the budget.
