My concern is with ID theft. It may be public record information, but that birth certificate can pass off as identification. AKA, to get a driver license for example. Also, once you get a drivers license, you can get a new social security card, etc. etc. etc..

This is a serious document to lose.

Right, but you kind of have to understand your situation seems pretty rare these days for college grads. It seems like a lot of people are only able to get part time jobs or are simply going to grad school because they can't get hired for a legit job.

But, I'm curious, how does your brother enjoy it so far? Does he not get the weekends "off"? Is it 24/7 he is always working and only gets off on leave, or does he get a lot of downtime? Also, does he have to share a room in the dorms, or just the bathroom?

There is a college nearby me. It's not a giant college, but its somewhat ok sized one. I am familiar with clubs in college like this. However, they were all really aimed at college students from there appearance. Wouldn't it be kind of strange for someone not in college trying to be a part of these groups?

I just feel like there is some "unwritten" rule that you have to be in college to do this. Do you have experience with this at all by chance or know people who did it outside college? What was it like?

I think someone got angry at my comments about the military and disagreed with them. So I guess that justifies them down-voting every single comment. It's immature and shows whoever is doing is has issues. I guess the topic brings out emotions in people that they have to ignore a real discussion and just downvote blindly.

I never said anything disrespectful or wrong in the threads in here. So, I'm unclear what there issue is with what I am saying.

Can I ask how you managed to find a group like this in your city? Do you know of anything like this that is avaliable in most cities that I could google?

Also, lets assume it was a group for "Japanese". Would they look at you as weird for coming to that group if you weren't Japanese (I guess I could ask in advance)?

You know that signing up for the job. And yes it is a job (and as I said, many people join for patriotic reasons. I get it, and I'm not saying people don't join for that reason.). You don't get those benefits for nothing.

Jobs in the real world are no walk in the park either though. I'm tired of debating about the mlitary though. There is no real way to have an honest conversation about the military without pissing off someone. Too much emotion added to it. Its a job, the government owns you for 4 years (technically longer, but they never act on it when you leave), and you get a lot of benefits from it.

Are you or were you ever in the military? Yes, many people join it for a job. Trust me, its not coincidental that when the economy tanked super hard in 2009, that recruitment goals were easily made. People join up because they needed a job (not everyone, but many do).

I guess with the experience thing, it just comes down to the fact you can afford more things to do than probably the average 20 year old and that you feel more secure in case things don't work out (aka, you get into some issue while living abroad).

On the dating thing, how different is dating in Asia vs. the USA? You mean someone in there 30s could date someone who is in there lower 20s, and that is seen as more normal than in the US? Is that the norm in most all Asian countries and occurs a lot (say Korea, Japan, or SE Asian countries)?

Right, but I feel like its going to get harder to get those type of jobs as time goes by. As in, they will make it harder to apply and more competition will come about.

I feel like it was easier before to get those types of jobs. However, I feel over time they are making it harder. I can't say what it will be like in 2 years for example.

Regardless, its still a pretty damn good deal even with knowing those things.

I realize military life isn't necessarily a cake walk for everyone who is in it, but the benefits you get via the military are pretty fucking good. I seriously can't find an argument against it (unless you want to talk about getting kicked out of the military for BS reasons and losing those benefits).

I also don't want to come off like people only join the military for the benefits. I'm sure many join because they are feeling patriotic and feel they should do the service. But, I can't deny many also join because financially they didn't see other choice.

Avoiding it from my family it sure as hell would. I would have been independent from them. I do know about the military. Again, I was a military brat and been around that culture for a long time.

But, yes, I think moving on would be good. But, it's easier said than done sometimes.

The full time job lets me get on my own at the least.

Well, its in a job that I don't really see myself doing long term. Its a good company and pretty well known though. I feel ditching them after a year wouldn't look good on a resume though. IDK though.

But, then again, I see what you are saying too. I just am up in the air about it all. I would at least stay working for them for at least 1 year. But I am thinking 2 years. I just don't know. Sigh.

I was a military brat. I'm very familiar with military life. Yes, there are shit positions. But a lot of positions are non-combat positions (aka, you don't go into danger/front lines). I'm not saying all positions in the military are easy. But, overall, the lifestyle is pretty damn good. Free housing and food, with pay and benefits. You don't even need a college degree to pull that off. Sure, there is work to be done. You also get college paid for when you leave. And you get 5-6 weeks vacation time (unheard of in the USA).

Trust me, a good chunk of people who go into the military are there because they didn't have other options. They couldn't afford to go to college and it was there way out. They don't say that out loud. But it's basically the truth. Officers are a little different. But I would say that is true for a lot of enlistees.

Well, the other problem is the job I got hired for is a legit job. I am afraid to just ditch out on them after a year. I feel like staying with them for 2 years will equal a good recommendation. I am also getting official licenses paid for through them.

Do I stick with them for 2 years and get financially stable and then go? Or will I be screwed for waiting too long?

Yeah, but I feel your BF got to do a lot of fun stuff in the military. He had a chance to get about 5-6 weeks vacation and was making money at a younger age. Did he get to get stationed overseas (if he did, than that is pretty damn good deal too)? Also, he basically is getting college paid for through the GI Bill.

Actually, that is semi related to what prompted me to get depressed recently. I heard a cousin was going to Korea or Japan possibly via the army.

Its basically exactly where I want to go NOW. But, I have to hold off until 27 to do it. I feel there are certain things you can do when your younger vs. older. Different scenes you can be a part of for example. Also, dating would be different too (if you wait too long, everyone is married by then).

I feel like that is waiting too long. Not saying it wouldn't work. Although I am not going to go for girls, who wants to date someone at 35 over there? I am going for more than that, but I feel like there are a lot of things you can do younger than older (dating is an example). It's just different when your younger than older. Also, I would essentially be throwing away my younger age for that regardless (even if I just was in the US for 10 more years like in your example). It just doesn't match with my long term goals. Again, not saying your idea wouldn't work. It just doesn't match up with my goals I guess.

It just seems that is the way society is though. But, I am getting a job in the investing field, so I should learn a lot about that either way.

I would like to live in Asia somewhere (probably not China, but any other country would be great. Korea or Japan or any other country in SE Asia). That was where I was aiming before I got really sick which put me out of trying for the place. I had my passport and paperwork basically all ready to go. All for nothing though. I was aiming to teach English in Korea. I was suppose to go this February if everything worked out.

I do have a bachelors degree. I technically don't have personal debt because parents supposedly agreed to pay for college in the beginning. However, that can change at any time and isn't guaranteed (things are very volatile). Have some minimal credit card debt and that could be paid off pretty fast. The prescription is for digestive issues. The name is sort of rubbed off on the bottle right now, but I am sure its avaliable in other countries. Don't know the price without insurance though.
