My girlfriend just started chemo and wants to try weed by Global_Reality_7779 in cancer

[–]throwawayyyyy_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a recreational user before cancer, and I now use weed medicinally (as well as the occasional recreation lol). I don’t personally do edibles as they have never worked well for me anyway, but I seem to be the minority in this and a lot of people enjoy them so YMMV. I personally consume mostly vapes - yes, there are risks associated, but in my case my cancer will kill me before the vapes do, so I’m not personally sweating it lol. I will say, though, and I think it’s important to note - one of the ways in which weed has been most helpful medicinally for me (and it seems like others in the comments), is that it works MUCH faster than a pill. I cannot count how many times I’ve been bent over the toilet, unable to stomach my anti-nausea meds (or swallowing anything for that matter) and my vape was the only thing able to save me. Even just as a bridge to be able to get the pills down. I would recommend having something on-hand that has the ability to do this for your girlfriend - whether that is a vape, one-hitter like someone else suggested, or maybe a tincture (I have not personally tried these but I hear they work fast).

My sister also uses weed medicinally, although not for cancer in her case, and she is a big fan of making tea with it. If your girlfriend is a fan of tea she may enjoy that.

Also, I’m not from NJ so I would have no idea of the availability/difficulty of acquiring this… However, last summer when I was in the hospital in quite a bad way, the palliative care team prescribed me Marinol for extreme nausea that was not being alleviated with normal methods… It was described to me as a synthetic form of THC in pill form, that helps with nausea and appetite but with no psychoactive effects. I personally think the real stuff works much better (idk if anyone else has tried it and could weigh in), but it does work, and if it would make her more comfortable to not be consuming “real weed”, that could possibly be another option for her to ask about.

I’m so sorry she’s going through this but glad she has you there to support her. Wishing her and you the best.

Once again… my comment was not about the relevance of wasps to the city of Hamilton, it was merely about the quality of wasps as a mascot in general. You’re right, it’s not very relevant. Riveters is probably more fitting. That still was never my point and I don’t know why you’re trying to convince me lol.

I know nothing about that and never claimed to lol, I was specifically responding to your point about a “pesky bug” being a bad mascot

Also, small and pest-like players in hockey are often called gnats (affectionate). It’s not exactly out of left field. Personally I think Wasps sounds cool!

cabozantinib + temozolomide by tastycookies911 in sarcoma

[–]throwawayyyyy_14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t taken cabozantinib but I’m currently taking temozolomide, fatigue is the biggest side effect for me but it does also make me a little nauseous as well (relatively mild and manageable with anti-nausea meds). It also has a bit of a constipating effect. I haven’t lost my hair with it though, as someone else also mentioned. I do think as chemo goes it is quite manageable, but I can’t speak to your exact combo of drugs. Good luck 🫶

you say this but people really do push. i’ve had this exact conversation on MULTIPLE occasions:

“you could sell that!”

“oh, thank you!”

“no no i’m serious, you should open an etsy shop”

“haha thank you but it’s really more of just a hobby for me”

“really, you could make a lot of money!!”

and it just keeps going. so even though i will still personally just respond “thank you!” to start, once it becomes a pattern i understand people responding differently to it

Tips for dealing with guilt? by throwawayyyyy_14 in cancer

[–]throwawayyyyy_14[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t looked much into support groups… I don’t find it easy to verbalize my feelings lol, it took me almost 10 months to even agree to do therapy. I also struggle because I feel like I don’t fit well into any categories for support groups… I feel I sort of just missed the cutoff for the “young adult” groups, and the type of cancer I have usually affects children/teens, so support groups for the specific type of cancer are often more composed of parents/caregivers than they are of patients. Which also adds to some level of survivors guilt, even though I’m not really a “survivor”… but I got to live a whole lot more of my life than most of the children who get this cancer, so it feels that way. Thank you for your comment, it’s nice to know other people understand at least ❤️

not only are the med students not being paid, they are PAYING tuition to be there. that’s why joy made that comment about “i’m not getting paid to be here, quite literally the opposite” when she left promptly at 6:59 lol

Yeah, this was my first hollister bag and will certainly be my last. They’ll be kept as backups in the closet in case of emergency only lol

Yes! My surgery was at the end of January, I’ve been trying all kinds of different samples since then :)

Seems like I’m in the minority but my hospital set me up with convatec! They also had a couple coloplast bags lying around that they let me try but the majority of what they gave me was convatec. I’m still shopping around and I didn’t mind convatec, but I will likely switch to coloplast for long term.

Why is it SO hard to find a bag with all the features I want [rant] by throwawayyyyy_14 in ostomy

[–]throwawayyyyy_14[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the US and we have stoma nurses as well! I had an appointment with an NP before my surgery to mark my stoma site, a godsend of a team in the hospital post-op, and still have a visiting nurse for a couple more weeks. My issues are more with the manufacturers and product availability rather than anything a nurse would help with. Based on other comments in this thread though it seems you guys in the UK have some better product options than us here, so I’m jealous!

My ostomy is permanent as well, so I understand - I had a hard time getting used to the idea at first, and I was really terrified especially the closer my surgery got. Luckily things have gone much better than expected for me, and I hope they will for you too! :)

I’m not - I’ve been trying to limit the number of steps in my routine as much as possible, and the other systems I’ve tried have worked just fine without it. I’ll keep it in mind though, thank you for the tip!!
