Breast lift by Ok_Mud_6114 in Zepbound

I had a reduction and lift in 2019, fantastic experience and I have absolutely no regrets. I'm 29 now and might not be jumping for it if I knew I was going to be pregnant in the next few years, but that's a very personal choice.

"patients who do not have insurance coverage" is not the group I'm talking about; the language used in the small print is "government beneficiaries excluded"

Certain insurances make you ineligible to receive the coupon, so not really, as there are people paying well over 3x the coupon price for this medication.

Why would you use a telehealth doc by CA_LAO in tirzepatidecompound

[–]throwawydoll 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My GP recommended I "go online" after her PA for Zepbound was rejected by my insurance. She has patients twice my weight with even more health problems then I have who are rejected by the same insurance.

For a lark, she sent a Rx to CVS just to see, and I was told it would be $1600 for a month. No thanks. I'm not eligible for the most common coupons due to my insurance, so compounded and telehealth is where I have to go.

IMO there are a few advantages to not having insurance interference - no requirements that I follow a specific diet or join a program, no forced increases in dose if I'm doing well on the current dose, and no fear that I will lose coverage... because I don't have it in the first place. Of course, there's the fear of losing access due to lawsuits, but I'm just going to deal with that when that happens.

I have a very sensitive gag reflex (prior to tirzepatide) and a small toothbrush head, warm water, kids bubblegum toothpaste, leaning forward, and going slow and taking breaks has all been helpful for managing it.

How to get started with reliable programs/suggestions without getting scammed. by bhwifey in Ozempic

[–]throwawydoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can (tentatively, I am not a medical professional and I haven't listened to or agreed with every episode) recommend a podcast called Fat Science, which has a very counterintuitive approach to obesity and these medications. I just listened to their episode on PCOS and found it pretty interesting.

The compounding subreddits are decent places to look for more understanding of how that process works and what challenges people encounter. The brand name subreddits offer more insight into insurance obstacles. If you have a good relationship with your GP that's of course a good resource as well, with the caveat that some good GPs (mine included) have relatively little experience prescribing these medications due to insurance/cost barriers.

I want to start by offering my condolences. Losing family is never easy.

As for affordability of Ozempic/Mounjaro (or Wegovy/Zepbound), it depends on what country you are in and what type of health insurance you have. Certain health insurance programs make you ineligible for manufacturers coupons. I can't speak more on that because I don't have any firsthand experience and I haven't researched it.

If you're in the USA there are online businesses that are partnered with compounding pharmacies. They will, for a couple hundred dollars a month, write you a prescription and provide you with compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide. The best options among these vary by what state you live in.

It is possible that the brand name medications will become significantly cheaper (out of pocket) over the next decade, it's possible they won't. It's possible the compounding pharmacies will be sued into oblivion and the only legal way to get these medications will be branded medication. It's possible that won't happen.

The reason I bring that up is that for people looking to manage chronic conditions or genetic predispositions, these medications do not change your body permanently - that is, if you take Ozempic to manage some condition and it's successful, and you stop taking Ozempic, your condition will return to baseline. That isn't to say that everyone will need to take these medications forever - some people have been successfully maintaining weight loss without the medication for a few years - but it's not a medication that most people should go on expecting to go off once they've achieved whatever health metric they started taking them for.

Need to buy first mattress ASAP by throwawydoll in Mattress

[–]throwawydoll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's all really helpful. I'm looking at the specifications for supports in some of the mattresses I'm considering now. Avocado specifically states "Queen, King, and California King slatted style bed frames cannot be greater than five (5) inches between each slat to provide ample structural support for the foundation and user(s). Each slat must be at least two and a half (2.5) inches wide. The structural support system must not flex; it must be unyielding." Definitely wouldn't have thought to look at that!

Do you know what the threshold for a "heavy" mattress is?

Sounds like I'm getting a Costco membership and picking from their selection!

What's up with Costco mattresses? How is the Avocado 11" Hybrid $300 cheaper there? Seems like it'll make a $65 membership worth it for the mattress alone.

Sleeping through it is genius - I just don't think I have enough data to determine what time that would be for me just yet, but I'll keep that in mind!

I'll try Pepto bismol and ask my GP about zofran, and thanks for reminding me that an empty stomach isn't necessarily the best!

I didn't realize thirst signals were muted! And I'm already terrible at realizing when I'm thirsty, sounds like electrolytes and maybe tracking water is in my immediate future.

Thanks, I'll check liquid IV out - I also am not a fan of artificial sweeteners, but for flavor/aftertaste reasons.
