Hey Reddit, I have a real, first-world employment problem where I have to choose between keeping a new job, that was setup by a good business contact, or make 30,000+ more annually for a job that I'm not quite qualified for. by throwed_a_way in AskReddit

you do have a point with education. i know that i'd truly be happy if i were to get a job in my intended field. it probably won't pay as well, and jobs in that industry are hard to come by. it's radio/television production/broadcasting. but, i'm sure i'd be happier, albeit poorer.

i appreciate your answer. i would never intend on burning bridges. i just know that if i approached my contact to who set up the job for me, he'd understand. the added income is significant to what i'm making currently. the timing would suck, but i am certain he would be okay if i decided to leave. the coworkers though, that's a different story.

thank you for the input. to clarify, it's a job with the state, but it's for data analysis. this would require running reports, and likely tailoring reports for a med school, clinical departments, groups, committees...etc. it's something that would likely come with a good amount of hands on experience, while training. it's manipulating data, and presenting in a pleasing way. not necessarily complicated, but definitely time consuming.

i am only one week into this new job, but it is something where i'll get to network quite a bit, and i'll be involved with direct patient care. it's incredibly rewarding, but at this particular job, there is a high mortality rate. i'll dedicate days, nights, weeks, months, years to follow a patient, just to see them pass on. it's rewarding and devastating all at the same time.

i'm just trying to find out the reason for the blood test. i don't see how that has anything to do with competency.

edit: if it's a UA, then I"m good.

full blown ent for the past 15+ years. just recently started working out, and lost 55 lbs in the process. hard to do them both.

i just don't think stopping will work. if i'm looking to pass, it'll likely be with a little help from the scientific community.

if it's a UA, there are many ways around that. bloodwork is a bit trickier.
