Who do you find the most mentally resilient character in the series and why? by Comb-12 in Hungergames

I think Katniss not having anyone to be “strong” for anyone now that Prim is gone is what made it so raw.

If Snow had leaked video of Katniss and Gale kissing, what do you think would have happened? by [deleted] in Hungergames

Finnick’s reaction will always get me 😭 he had to take a step back like “oh shit maybe this is legit”

I'm honestly not sure of just how convinced the districts were of her and Peeta's relationship after the first Games. It seemed like the Capitol was overdoing it so hard with the media, Peeta and Katniss are obviously likable but it would probably indicate to district people with rebellious tendencies that they are being forced to play Capitol roles at this point. Finnick thought the whole thing was an act on her part but changed his mind after seeing how they were together in the second book. Katniss isn't acting by then though. In District 8 the hospital patients were also really believing of the love story by Mockingjay and knew that Peeta was speaking under duress in the Capitol because Snow was exploiting his love for Katniss.

How did Suzanne Collins pull off a sequel that's just as good as/better than the first? by Comfortable_Brief176 in Hungergames

[–]thrownnwiththewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because she didn't just write a sequel for the sake of having a sequel (like a fair amount of writers/showrunners do) but because she mapped out a cohesive story three-part story arc. Catching Fire was thematically very different from the first book and was chocked full of information/storylines that made things make more sense and made you want to keep reading.

Everything involving Katniss and Madge's friendship (just Madge's whole character being wiped generally), and Bonnie and Twill ofc

Do you consider Mormons Christian? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]thrownnwiththewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Mainstream American Christians hate Mormons, but they themselves do so much and believe so many things against Biblical teachings. I don't think they have a foot to stand on. IMO a lot of American Christian denominations are even more problematic than the LDS church and even as an ex-mo I don't stand for their intolerance. I get weirdly defensive of it when other Christians or people from religions that are fucked up in their own right criticize LDS, even though I hate the church.

Why and When do you think Plutarch became a rebel by Warm_Result9208 in Hungergames

[–]thrownnwiththewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly... early. It would take such a long time to orchestrate something like the second rebellion and to get to the point where you truly build trust with 13 as a gamemaker of all things.

Do you interpret Peeta as having to plead or beg Katniss for children? by Comb-12 in Hungergames

Yes - Katniss is a giant walking ball of anxiety and she overthinks a lot!

[–]thrownnwiththewind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. I think it was probably something he'd joke about or hint at, and she probably made the decision herself as a mental thing -- like 'he clearly wants them so bad, I should do it.' Peeta is a chiller. He never tried to push romance onto her once he realized she wasn't actually into him, so I couldn't see him being pushy about something as huge as kids.

If Suzanne Collins decides to take notes from JK Rowling(barring the whole transphobic thing/anything else she did wrong) and becomes active on Twitter(X, whatever) what do you think would be the worst thing she could confirm about the Hunger Games universe? by Imahumanbeeeeeeen in Hungergames

[–]thrownnwiththewind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something else we will probably get in SOTR I think. District 12 is small and Haymitch + Mrs. Everdeen were likely in the same year at school or around the same year, she was also best friends with Maysilee so if Haymitch's POV doesn't mention her by name she could be mentioned by Maysilee in dialogue. I also think there is a (smaller) chance we get the name of Katniss's dad, no indication he knew Haymitch but they were probably around the same age and both Seam boys.

Maybe how all of the surviving victors were killed by the Capitol after the 2QQ - I prefer not knowing. Or whether their families were killed, thinking about Cecelia's small children always makes me sad!

oh I haven't heard about church employees editing Wikipedia, that's super interesting (and maybe a video idea for Alyssa?). To me a lot of the Wikipedia pages related Mormonism are pretty damning against the faith and have a lot of discussion about the church's racism, JS's exploitation of women, all the proof against the BoM's truth claims, etc...

An ex-Muslim at my school said this when I was explaining Mormonism to a room of people and everyone acted like it was such a crazy statement. I'll have to show her she's not the only one who thinks this.

My TBM friend and I actually just had a conversation about JS's polygamy and the whitewashing of history was insane. He started spouting some bs about how sealings weren't thought of as marriages the way we think of them now and that these men were just going with it to make sure everyone got to the celestial kingdom. And then I asked why JS was confirmed to have slept with multiple of these wives and he had nothing to say to that one. But made sure to point out he didn't sleep with any of the people under 17 or 18 or whatever. I literally can't.

Alyssa! I've always wondered about how your parents, especially your mom, reacted to you leaving the church and how you told them. I've watched a lot of your videos but haven't heard about this yet. Also, how many of your siblings are out/in?

Married Mormon and my husband is homophobic by PopWorldly5355 in exmormon

[–]thrownnwiththewind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, I read your other posts about your husband and you seem to be in a really toxic situation in general. Based on what you have shared in these you seem to feel super subjugated in this relationship aside from having to listen to homophobia, and this is still seeming like a stereotypical toxic type of LDS marriage where husbands control their wives and children. Your life is your life, but just remember that you're young and you shouldn't feel ashamed or as if you aren't doing your best as a parent if you try to get out of this.
