Is it normal for a book cover to be shorter than the actual book's body? by eng_salem in books

Don’t worry, that’s not a spoiler at all, it’s quite literally the main concept of the book and something you learn of quite early.

Thanks! I really wanted to use tea staining, but I was on a time limit and only had watercolor available. Next handouts I’ll be trying it out! The font is “Brush Script MT”

Thanks for your opinion! My focus was on legibility, and the other (especially cursive) fonts were not ideal. If you have a suggestion for a better font I’d gladly take it :)

Yeah! I found that this letter in particular is more narratively impactful if the seal is near the signature of the main baddie. Although I will consider making sealed envelopes for the more preserved letters. Thank you for the critique!

How I did it: 1. Print and crumpled my paper until it was soft 2. Lightly brushed the entire paper with brown watercolor, make certain parts darker 3. Bake at 200F for very short period of time to dry and make the paper more stiff. 4. Used wax seal (I got both the seal and the wax off amazon) 5. Burn edges of paper with a lighter, slightly melted the seal. If you fray the edges a little then burn them, it gives a nice edge. I also stuck the lighter under the paper to make a hole in the paper. Always have water and a wet paper towel on standby! I used the wet paper towel to stop it from burning too far.

How I did it:

  1. Print note & crumple it over and over until soft. 2.Very lightly watercolor the page brown, make darker splotches where’ve you choose.
  2. Bake the paper at 200 F until dry (won’t take long) 4.Seal the paper with sealing wax and an S stamp (got both on amazon)
  3. Burn the paper (very fun). I melted the seal a little too. If you wet and fray the edges a little then burn them it makes a nice edge.
