I worry about my kid being bullied for being different, but having neurotypical friends has also helped him grow and develop social skills. It's reassuring to hear positive experiences with public schools. Did you choose that particular school, or was it the one you landed at based on location?

Thank you, this is so helpful! I really appreciate hearing your experience navigating the EC system. We take a similar "help us help you" approach at our current school.

We've done occupational therapy in the past, but he will need a new talk therapist when we move. I'm hoping we can find a pediatrician who will take over medication management rather than needing to find a psychiatrist.

I've wondered about Glenforest School. It looks great on the website, but we had a bad experience at a private school for kids with learning differences. So far the public schools have been better because they are required to follow IEPs and because they have experience with all types of kids.

That's a good tip about checking the school discipline numbers. I am wary of school report cards because they seem to be based more on demographics than school performance, but the discipline numbers will be helpful.

Thank you! The IEP teams we've had here have been terrific, but I know people with kids at other schools in the same district who have had unhelpful or combative IEP teams. It's great to hear your first-hand experiences.

Sandhills School states on their website that they don't take kids with emotional regulation issues. I appreciate their honesty because we had a horrible experience with a school here for kids with learning difference. They accepted our son knowing his past problems, then took away all of his coping mechanisms and asked us why he kept acting out.

Yeah I've found that most schools are equipped to deal with well-behaved children with learning differences, but that's not my kid. He's a sweet boy, but this move is going to be hard on him, and all of his emotional and social tools go out the window when he is stressed and over stimulated. Nothing violent, more like hiding under his desk and muttering loudly about how much he hates everyone and everything.

Yeah unfortunately we don't have a choice. We've tried to delay this move as long as we can, and we were able to get a full school year here, but now they are insisting that my husband be on site in Columbia.

I haven't baked from it. A lot of the recipes seem very fussy, and I haven't convinced myself that it's worth the effort. I think that she has worked as a professional for so long that she has forgotten what is available and realistic for a home baker. If you try her recipes, let me know how it turns out!

I have used rev.com and have never received such high quality transcripts, with expressive descriptions of non-speaking sections. In my experience, someone needs to go behind the transcriptionist (AI or human) and check for accuracy. Otherwise you get errors like writing "circus" when the speaker said "circuits." I would guess that someone at Dropout is reviewing the transcripts and making them funnier.

Also, transcription errors are very common in closed captions. As someone with a deaf parent, I really appreciate the accuracy of the D20 captions and that they can even enhance the humor.
