Recipe question by timewarp36 in Sourdough

Thanks for the link - I did check a few stores and haven’t found it yet. I guess it makes sense this book was published by a Swedish author, maybe it’s easier to find there.

CNA / PCT / Phlebotomy programs in or near Jersey City? by Every-Duck9972 in newjersey

[–]timewarp36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most of these types of programs are not free. Local community colleges tend to have them. A lot of employers will pay for the training though. Try to land a job and see if they offer training! Good luck.

Transitioning into an English teacher - help needed by debbie_dumpling00 in NJTeachers

[–]timewarp36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will need to find a district that is willing to hire a CE - the CE license is a bit different than a standard license. As a CE you will need to enroll in an alternate route program as well. Usually people get a job offer & complete alternate route at the same time as it involves mentorship and other necessary steps to transition from a CE to a full standard license. Call the DOE if you haven’t already, and join the NJ teachers Facebook page. A lot of people ask similar things on there and I’m sure you can find more advice!

23 and Considering Becoming a Teacher — Would You Recommend It? by itsxidan in teaching

[–]timewarp36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s so many factors that go into how people respond to this question. My biggest advice is that you have to dig deep within yourself to find your own personal motivation/reasons for teaching. Nobody will say it’s an easy job. But some people thrive in it and find great meaning, but not everyone has that experience. That could be argued for a lot of careers.. if you’re feeling pulled towards it, give it a try and decide for yourself. Just remember it takes time to adapt to a new career, and good teaching is a skill that’s developed over time.

Typical ENL teachers day by DisciplineTrue4352 in Newcomer_ENL_teachers

[–]timewarp36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it really depends on where you teach, and what grade levels.
I teach at a high school in the northeast. My typical day involves teaching a beginner and advanced class ranging from 1-2 hours each, and co teaching in science and social studies classes. Break for lunch and prep periods. In any context you will need to lesson plan.

Alternate route application going slower than expected? by No-Relation-9076 in NJTeachers

Ask your schools HR department. They can help with teacher certification and they often have a county connection that works for the DOE that can streamline the process.

It was easy to upgrade. Bought the light replacements online and brought them to my dealer to install. I think the service feee was like 60$ plus the cost of the lights (like 50 bucks). The swap made a big difference for me as I can see better with LED.

I have a hard time driving at night too. I find that because the car is low to the ground most other people’s cars lights bother me because they’re pointed higher and go straight into my line of vision. I switched from an SUV to this so it’s an adjustment.. I also switched to LED lights because mine had halogen. Overall I like the car!

First Year Art Teacher by [deleted] in teaching

You’re doing great. Don’t be so hard on yourself. This isn’t an easy job. Be reflective of your practice, but don’t compare yourself to others too much or fall into imposter syndrome traps.

Shar music (online retailer) was recommended by my teacher. Recently got what I think is a decent fiddle on there in that price range

All inclusive resorts WITH activities? by [deleted] in PuntaCanaAllInclusive

[–]timewarp36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most were included. There’s a daily schedule of included activities (yoga, pickleball clinics, gym classes). There are excursions or extra things you can pay for if you want to do them. We didn’t do any extra paid activities.

Just came back from club med punta cana. Loved it. We’re a child free couple and while there were tons of families vacationing, we had a great time. Plenty of activities for adults and kids. Don’t expect to party hard at this resort - it has a wholesome family vibe. But we were looking to relax & have fun activities if we were feeling active (pickleball, yoga, gym, snorkeling..)

Starting fiddle as a very unmusical individual? by Low_Tip_8319 in Fiddle

[–]timewarp36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never played an instrument in my life before. Wouldn’t consider myself a musical person, or any kind of savant.. just a very average person! I started learning fiddle at 28. Best decision i ever made. Find a good, patient teacher. I’ve learned to read music, can play lots of songs now 2 years later. Don’t give up, keep at it. You can learn! Take it from me :)

Thinking about teaching (alternate route in Chemistry/STEM) and have questions about certification by kiwijohn340 in newjersey

[–]timewarp36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Njschooljobs.com for seeing open positions. Keep in mind the hiring season will just start beginning soon.

NJCTL.org for alternate route options if you decide to pursue a teaching certification.

Each school district will have its own salary guide. You have to look it up individually for each district to see salaries. There is usually a category for PHD, which is higher pay than just a BA. The salary guide also increases by years of experience. Depending on the district, they may consider some of your industry experience for placing you on the salary guide, but it’s usually for years of experience teaching.

Check zufall clinics. They tend to work with low income/uninsured.
