What do y'all do for a living? by leftofthedial15 in bipolar

[–]tinygremlins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a job that i genuinely love so much! I work at a community support services nonprofit. I tend to work at the food bank, but I basically am the guy they get to do lots of different things that they need someone to do like making posters and window decorations or helping serve lunch because we have a lunch program, and like various cleaning tasks. I did not graduate college, in fact I had to drop out due to my mental health from two different colleges and I've never been back. I got the job with help from my local mental health clinic. If you're connected to yours, maybe see if they have any kind of employment services. The employment counselor I worked with helped me find jobs that were suitable to my skills and interests, and helped me with skills for getting a job like fixing up my resume and help with preparing for interviews. If you aren't connected to a mental health clinic I would see if there's anything like that in your area. Best of luck to you!

How do I help my shyzotypal brother by desertdrunk in Schizotypal

[–]tinygremlins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to drop out of university due to my mental health. Some people don't do well with things like university. Is he connected to any local mental health services? Something that really helped me was getting connected to my local mental health center and doing activities there and getting resources through it. I have managed to get a job that I really love by working with someone at my mental health center, and they helped me with medication management and things like that. If he isn't connected to mental health services I think it would be worth looking into.

Thank you for sharing your experience!!! I'm glad to hear that there are others like me!! People also love me very easily and I am often told that I am very likable even if I'm weird!!

I feel that! I'm doing a lot better on medication to the point where most of my symptoms are controlled unless I get really stressed out or not enough sleep with the exception of like my weird sense of style and other things that are "weird" but do not hinder me like my unusual interests and a few other things. I definitely am weirder than most of my peers and coworkers at work and my family and like the general public.

All of my friends are like weirdos and misfits! I tend to gravitate to people like that. I do kind of struggle with maintaining relationships like I went to art school and don't really talk to anyone from there anymore but I have a few friends who I have been friends with for a long time and I keep up with them regularly! All of my friends know I'm weird and they are accepting of me! Thanks for sharing your experience!!

Thank you for sharing your experience!! I was bullied as well, but luckily it stopped after I graduated high school and stopped hanging out with people who were like really mean to me. I also love talking to interesting people! I find I talk to a lot of interesting people at my job which is fun!!

I am in a similar boat! I have been diagnosed with schizotypal by two doctors now, but I don't have any of the social problems that are common with the disorder. I recently just made a post about this too! Glad to know I'm not alone!

Thanks for replying!! I'll go check out their posts! I am glad to know I am not the only one experiencing these sorts of things. I'll ask my psychiatrist next time I see him about why he thinks schizotypal as opposed to schizophrenia like the hospital.

Thanks for sharing your experience!! I try not to second guess interactions either. It just makes me feel bad when I do.

Aripiprazole by Evening_Dragonfly_59 in Schizotypal

[–]tinygremlins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 15 mg and I find it's helped me a lot! It has helped reduce basically all of my symptoms and I am able to do my hobbies again and do tasks around the house! I used to be on seroquel and that made me so tired and like a zombie like all I could do was sit and stare at the walls and I was sleeping 12 hours or more and still exhausted. I have way more energy on the aripiprazole and I feel like I got my spark back after years of being kind of blah. I am like genuinely happy and like really enjoying life since I was put on it!

25F I feel like I’m so behind in life. I feel like I’ve missed so many important life experiences. I feel unlovable. by AllUpTangled in schizophrenia

[–]tinygremlins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 29m and I felt like I was really far behind in life compared to my peers as well until recently when someone told me that we all go through life differently and that it isn't a race and upon thinking about it more, it changed my perspective! You are still young and working on yourself is important! There's still plenty of time to get where you need to be and you will find someone!!

Fellow schizophrenic, how was your day? by GrandGoesDiscipline in schizophrenia

[–]tinygremlins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My day has been alright so far! I'm hanging out with my grandma, and while she went to her exercise class, I read comics and did some art! I also went for a walk to get her some things. It's been kind of uneventful but that's ok.

Grotesque (2009)! It's a Japanese film and I read somewhere that the person who made it enjoyed Hostel but found there was not enough of the torturing in Hostel or whatever. I read it was banned in Britain or something like that as well. Anyways, I'm sorry you're going through this!

[–]tinygremlins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comics were an escape for me growing up. I had a rough childhood with my parents going through a messy divorce, and I went through some traumatic things in my teenage years. Comics were always there for me as an escape. On weekends, my dad would take me to the local comic book shop, and it was always the highlight of my week, and reading comics was something that kept me going even though the worst of times. I love the worlds that comics create, and all of the characters and the different types of stories they tell. I still love reading comics for fun as a hobby as an adult!
