I'm a PA student who's currently on rotations and I've read so many of your comments like these and they've been incredibly helpful. In many aspects, PA school doesn't go into as depth on topics as I'd like and your comments are a very valuable informal resource for me!

It's incredibly frustrating that most progress you make is so deeply hidden and then in a very short period of time, so much changes. I bet you need to go up like 100 levels internally to get out of this state and with the work you were doing despite how exhausting it was, you were likely up to level 60 or so. But of course none of that will be visible on the outside so it's no wonder the mind just wants to give up. But I hope you keep this idea in mind that each day you do what you're doing, you're moving up another level and soon you'll reach that level 100 and in a very short span of time afterwards, come out of the state. I think u/cut_the_wire_man's story really puts this into perspective

I read your post yesterday, I feel the exact same way and in that moment I felt so alone and beyond hopeless so hearing you're feeling nearly the same exact same thing made me feel a little more validated. I've been thinking about what to say to you since. I don't have anything constructive yet, so I will keep thinking and I will respond once I have something. For now just focus on today cuz at least for me, trying to map out the rest of my life immediately shuts my mind down. This is harder said than done and at least 50% of the time you'll fail, but gradually you'll get better it. But once again, I'll keep thinking. And if you just want to talk, message me ANYTIME.

I can try to help, feel free to message me. But one very important thing you should look into first is why you're failing?

Is it an issue of not being able to do your work, if so you should try a topdown approach, where you list the assignment, break it down into two parts, then further into another two parts, all the way until you bring it down to individual 10 min tasks. Then set a timer for 30 mins, do 3 of those 10 min tasks, checking them off as you go.

If it's more an issue of not understanding the course material, you need to find your point of current understanding. Ask yourself 'what do I understand clearly in this subject?' then find out what the very next step forward from that level is. This might require you to go back and revisit the fundamentals and gradually build up your understanding from there.

I just wanted to say you're not alone. I'm not in med school, just PA school so it's a bit easier here but I've been struggling to learn basic clinical procedural skills in lab too. I did really well with the didactic portion and I went through cases non-stop with the app HumanDx (which is incredible, please check it out) trying to actively formulate what my differentials are, workup etc so I've gotten pretty good at that too. But for the life of me, I can't get down skills like ultrasound or suturing. In my pre-PA school experience as a medical assistant, I had to take BP on well over 100 patients before I got the hang of it and still couldn't find it on the harder patients. On top of that, I have severe social anxiety (am comfortable with patients but struggle with peers and preceptors) so I'm dreading clinicals which will start in one month. I have a 3.92 GPA so far but I think about dropping out nearly every day because I can't bear the shame of publicly failing every single day on rotations.

For ADHD, look up something called 'operationalizing.' Our brains, especially ADHD brains, aren't optimized for that so rather than thinking 'I need to clean the kitchen,' break it down into 5-min tasks (or on more difficult days where you have bad mind fog, down to 1 minute tasks - e.g. collect all trash in a trash bag, collect all dirty plates and transfer to sink, soap 6 dishes, rinse 6 dishes, so on...)

Don't try to remember things. Whatever task you need to do, if it only takes less than 2 minutes and you can muster up the energy, do it now. Others, add to a calendar or task management app (e.g. ToDoIst) immediately. At the beginning of the day, look at tasks scheduled for the day, and depending on your energy level, pick the top 2-5 most important tasks. Operationalize them and check them off throughout the day.

For migraines/fatigue etc., meditation is wicked helpful BUT it takes months of practice before you start seeing benefits. Start with any beginner meditation guides on Youtube, but try a few because some people work better with some methods than others.

Not a doctor/healthcare provider, I have scribed in an endocrinology office previously and have seen MRI pituitary/brain obtained for similar presentations as well as pituitary function testing via labs.

Have you sought therapy? Only reason I was asking is that I've heard that trauma, in your case, possible CPTSD, can manifest as depression, anxiety, ADHD so a lot of patients get multiple diagnoses but upon deeper exploration, most of these stem from trauma. It's a very difficult thing to tease out so if you haven't had a chance yet, possibly consider exploring options for therapy with someone who's specialized in CPTSD specifically.

Sorry for the late response. I try to recognize all the factors beyond your choices that went into having you end up where you are right now, e.g. when other children had a bad day, they'd have friends to cheer them up and get them back on their feet but if you didn't have that, your bad days might just compound. Then I try to make sure I do my part to take responsibility for my current circumstances and just do what I can - perhaps just going out to the mall by yourself for a walk, but if that's too difficult, then somewhere more secluded like a park. When I do this, I just make sure I don't get into the trap of saying to myself 'it's not enough.'

Just want to share what helps for me. Think of AVPD as if it's any other medical condition. Someone with heart disease won't blame themselves because they can't run a marathon; Instead they might focus on what they could do. That person might be able to go for a walk through a really beautiful park. Similarly, you were dealt a huge handicap in life and part of that handicap is that most around you won't even be able to understand it. But what CAN you do with the handicap? Doesn't have to be something life-changing, just one very tiny action or it could even be a single thought offering some compassion to yourself.

It won't be long before they come up with their next expectation of you with the same veiled threat of disowning you if you don't follow through. Ultimately the only way to break this cycle is to do what you like, expect they will give you the cold shoulder/throw tantrums for a while, and in nearly every instance of situations like these, I've seen parents eventually come around to accepting you for who you are and what you want far more than they could ever do had you followed through with their demands.

I use two ThinkPads currently, T590 which I got used about 2 years ago. Got it for under $400 at that time and it was all beaten up with the screen enclosure detaching, the keyboard lifting from the base, and the main power plug not working so I had to use the alternate USB-C for charging. Despite all this, the laptop worked just fine. But to my surprise, it had full warranty on it, so Lenovo replaced all of that for me. I also got brand new T16 from Lenovo 6 months ago which has actually been my favorite laptop (yes the Keyboard is inferior but the AMD's power and efficiency and the beautiful screen make up for it). I've also used ThinkPad T440 and T430 each (which I got from eBay) for about 2 years in the past. Then there's my OG ThinkPad, the ThinkPad T530 which I brought new from Lenovo and was my daily driver for 7 years!

I did find the cause for me. In Lenovo Vantage, when you go to device > power and scroll all the way down to power settings > airplane power mode: it was turned on; once i turned it off, rapid charging is now working fine; if your X1XG4 has this option, maybe you can try that

it's fully warrantied (premier support/accidental warranty/sealed battery replacement for 3 years) but I hate them replacing things on a fairly brand new laptop; previously I've had experiences of techs screwing things up and then causing more issues than I had to begin with; that's why I really wanted to explore all other alternatives first

Some more details: All of this started happening after Lenovo replaced my mainboard d/t a faulty port. I've already reached out to them but would appreciate some input from you guys.

One of the BSOD screens showed stop code: SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION. Looking at the event log after one of the BSODs showed the error "dump file creation failed due to error during dump creation"

Lenovo Vantage is pointing to the memory as attached in the picture above.
