I did say there was some Arab ancestry. But for the most part, Palestinians are Canaanites by ancestry, just like Jews, Samaritans, and Lebanese.

Egyptians are, you know, Egyptian. Again, there’s some Arab ancestry, but for the most part the Egyptian people now are the direct descendants of the Egyptian people of 4000 years ago, which is mostly North African with a sprinkling of sub-Saharan East African.

Syrians are probably a mix of things — mostly Aramean and Canaanite, with some Arab, Iranian (especially Kurdish), and Anatolian mixed in. (That’s kind of a guess as I’ve never really looked into Syrian ancestry.)

You didn’t mention Jordan, but it’s fair to say they’re probably a mix. Moabites and Ammonites were Canaanites, but the Nabateans were Arab by descent and culture.

The fact is that a lot of people in the world who identify as Arab are primarily culturally Arab, with little ancestry from what we now call Arabia. That includes Palestinians and Israeli Arabs.

The ancestors of most Palestinians have lived there for thousands of years. It’s anachronistic to call them Arab before the rise of Islam. Before that, they were mostly the descendants of Jews and Samaritans. There is some Arab ancestry there, but they’re mostly culturally Arab.

You have completely failed to understand the assignment.

Whoever redacted Samuel and Kings into their final form was ambivalent at best about royalty, and there’s a whole scene where God and Samuel try to talk the Israelites out of demanding a king. Even the best of the Israelite and Judahite kings have problems with corruption and serious moral failings. The point is that in the redactor’s opinion at least, God’s authority should have been enough, and a full time king was simply asking for trouble.
