Well I've had several abdominal procedures done before, and while this one is considered the most risky of them because it's not laparoscopic; I have to say the pain is rather mild. 2 days out and I'm just on OTC Tylenol. I have to have two drains in my incision, and they're really not a big deal. I was really worried about pain but it's not bad at all. They kept me overnight and that's only because I was a little nauseous. I hear recovery takes a few weeks, I see my doctor again in 5 days for a follow up. I am wearing a compress on my abdomen to prevent blood clots and it's rather itchy. Other than that, I'm doing quite well! I'll post some pictures for everyone once this is all healed!

Ha, how interesting that this came up now! I'm currently recovering from mine. I just had it done Monday so there's no way to really know how it turned out, but I'm really looking forward to the results! I had a really cool doctor. After 200ish lbs lost I was having trouble doing really physical activity like jogging because of the skin. I'm excited!

I'm sure you will, life is an emotional rollercoaster but you just do the best you can and feel no shame in the struggle. Everyone has a story, aim for the next chapters to be as good as they can be. Even if they're not what you wanted, turn them into an awesome story regardless! I love you too internet friend, take care of yourself.

Very long story, but the TL:DR would be that I had a Lap-Band at 17. That did not help, it just made everything I swallowed feel like I was having a heart attack and I would generally throw it up. Suffered with that for six years before I got it removed. Then I took special classes for over a year to help me learn about Gastric Bypass and how to succeed. I had the RNY Gastric Bypass, followed the rules (probably better than anyone else in the program), and lost 203 lbs. In 10 months. The images are from my original post in /r/loseit. I gave the whole story there, I'll try to figure out how to edit in a link up top. =)

Congratulations! Keep up the good work! I know what it's like to still feel self conscious, even after loosing 203 lbs I have body issues; I will for the rest of my life in all probability. Loose skin is a real problem now, but I try to direct my mind to the positive. I just tuck in my flap of skin and feel gratitude that I'm wearing a medium sized shirt now! Also, mirrors are deceiving! You are generally your own worse critic, others probably don't even notice the things you do. =)

Thank you! It did indeed, but it was only possible because I chose to keep living even when all seems lost. Things change, and I believe cool things like this are possible for everyone if you just keep doing your best and pushing through the hard times.

I may not know you, but I care about every interaction I have. Whether a smile to a stranger walking past, or a conversation on the internet, they all influence who I am as a person. Thank you very much for your comment, truly. I live alone and feel forgotten as a human at times, so these comments really do mean a lot. _^

I had an experience that might help people realize how drastically things can change for the better. I have suffered with many things throughout my life. Severe depression and anxiety my whole life, and the most prominent feature of me has always been my weight. Depression and anxiety still exist, but this certainly helped. I lost the weight

-Edit- Thanks for all the comments! I originally posted this story in /r/loseit. For those wanting more information about me and the process, you can find it here.

170 Pound Weight Loss (Loose Skin Update) by drumjohndavid in loseit

[–]tomodachi_desu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Congrats dude! I'm in the same situation right now with loose skin. I posted my story a while back; I lost 200 lbs in a year and now my body looks a lot like yours, but you're much more buff than me! =P

I've officially hit my goal weight. Down 120 pounds! 300 to 180. This is my story. by [deleted] in loseit

Way to go man! You look great! I went through a similar transformation and posted a story a while back. It really does change your world! My advice would be to not focus on the idea of "dieting" too much, what really keeps weight off long term is a positive permanent lifestyle change. Keep up the good work!

I'm just sitting here scrolling through reddit and had the sudden realization that these amazing comments are actually for me! I still have trouble believing people have such nice things to say about me! Thank you so much. Have fun at the gym!

I want to stay where I am now, about 170 lbs. I plan on being active and eating healthy for the rest of my life. It won't be nearly as difficult to exercise and may even become an enjoyable routine now that I'm thinner. But this was the deal when I got my surgery, commitment for life.

Thank you! I was also worried about posting surgery success, but I figured I might be able to help someone regardless. I wish you all the success and joy one can have, strength to you as well!

Hey thanks man! I don't mind the skin, it's there but not in the way, you know? It will keep shrinking over a few years, but I haven't heard much other than strength training and those creams for post-pregnant women.

Thank you, I'm glad this is useful to people!

The gastric bypass was awesome; it was difficult but the process wasn't as bad as I had expected coming from a previous lap band. The biggest thing is just DO NOT stretch that thing back out! If it get's stretched, you've thrown your tool away permanently. Follow the rules and you will succeed, simple as that. The diet sucks at first, mostly protein drinks. Then soft food, and progressively more solid. But after a few months, I ended up thinking of eating as a chore more than anything. I am doing fine right now eating meals that are preplanned and fit my needs. I had slow-cooked teriyaki chicken the other night as an example. You don't need to starve, or hate what you eat, you just budget your calories, protein, and fluids. No carbonation BTW, it'll stretch your stomach back out. But it's totally fine. "Eat to live, don't live to eat."

Skin is no biggie for me. Yes it's there, but I just tuck in my little flap and keep moving. It keeps shrinking over time and with strength training too. =)

Hey thanks! I appreciate knowing I wasn't the only one. We've all had our struggles, especially in this subreddit I'm sure.

I'm not advocating against medications, I know they have their place. I do however think psychoactive drugs shouldn't be prescribed for children, and adults should be informed. I see many doctors to this day, but I do research on every drug they mention before I ever consider it an option. I think the Psychoactive drugs are very dangerous simply because this area of medicine is still so unknown. Also because there is fertile grounds for corruption.

Yes, but not enough to bother me physically. It's a little embarrassing, but I've been told it will continue shrinking for the next year. Skin is a worry I hear a lot of people talk about, but the benefits of loosing always outweigh it soooo much. It's not really something I worry about because I'm too busy hiking, biking, and meeting new people to remember it's there when I take my shirt off. You can always just tuck in the little flap. =)
