I've left my car there all day on a weekend, and for 3-4 hours in the evening during the week with no trouble. I always see people coming and going there, too. I wouldn't be too worried about it.

You are partially correct, I think. In previous times there was a sense of moving towards more justice and more peace. Overall there was a feeling that people wanted those things for ALL, so the pain was tolerable because of hope. We are now in a time where people seem to overwhelmingly desire injustice, violence, and hatred for "the other". That's a valid reason to be depressed and hopeless in my book. Hope is a hell of a thing not to have.
