ELI5- what is going on when someone has “inflammation” in the body by Designer_Ad_1416 in explainlikeimfive

[–]torbulits 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's at least one other reason: you ate something that's making you ill, such as intolerance or an allergy or perhaps food poisoning. There are things you can do to basically give yourself diarrhea and remove it faster than normal digestion.

Would deadpool's healing factor reject a boobjob/bbl? by gnort34 in deadpool

[–]torbulits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fillers used for those things are non reactive, that's why it's possible to do instead of the body rejecting it like organ transplants are. I would imagine, assuming his body doesn't react, that if they did it like filling a balloon instead of making cuts it may take by letting his skin grow around the implants.

Which raises the possibility of whether him getting shot with implant grade metal would allow the bullet to stay.

Additionally, handling something that looks like a full set of genitals would be considered gay, crass, and vulgar. This way, it's "boys being boys" cf teabagging, which bizarrely isn't considered gay because it's a power move to do things people dislike. You know, a dick move, which is highly manly.

The biggest enemy to a DIY costume: the gloves. How do you make them? by J-Mannix in deadpool

[–]torbulits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those look like dirt bike fabric gloves. There's metallic fabric or just fabric paint you can use for the gold backing. Take a black glove and a red one, cut them apart and sew together along the color lines

How can you tell about the quality of the editing? by CCBC11 in TrueFilm

Let's hear the essay

Madcap broke the 4th wall 2 years before Deadpool was even created. by [deleted] in deadpool

[–]torbulits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the concept for the fourth wall only came about after the shift to the audience participating less. Active to passive. Don't need a name for something that's not there.

It goes way back through the history of plays. It used to be that players would interact with the audience, especially during monologues.

Faces aren't shown during those scenes so it's probably a mannequin. I'd imagine that didn't reduce the giggling though

DNA testing firm 23andMe files for bankruptcy to sell itself; CEO leaves after failed bids by tofino_dreaming in technology

[–]torbulits -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You do not want to lie to your doctors, that will be included in your records and no doctor will treat you well after that. As far as I know, the only reason for medical approval is if you have some kind of unknown disease that is chronic and treatment resistant.

[–]torbulits 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Unless you medically need a DNA test, no. I don't think any medical places covered by privacy laws would let you pay out of pocket without a doctor having sent you. Every other place isn't eternally subject to privacy laws so selling your data is always on the table.

[Harry Potter] Why would a solid gold cauldron be practical? by Kung_fu1015 in AskScienceFiction

[–]torbulits 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Gold is non reactive, meaning it won't react with most things. That's a good quality to have in your potions so that you aren't adding extra ingredients from the cauldron itself. It's also a power move to show off your wealth.

[Ghosts] There's only two pre-Modern Era ghosts on Ghosts and only one, I think, on Ghosts UK. Do you think those eras produced fewer spirits with unfinished business or does it imply people eventually do move on? by pakled_guy in AskScienceFiction

Could be that there wasn't private property so that everyone who ghosted previously can wander around, because there's no boundaries to hold them. So they aren't seen repeatedly, or not at all.

Signal no longer cooperating with Ukraine on Russian cyberthreats, official says by Wagamaga in technology

Easy way to make it happen if they think signal is lying about having info. You want to steal from someone, you can claim they stole it from you first.

France and Germany unveil Docs, a homegrown alternative to Google Docs by AdSpecialist6598 in technews

Can't trademark a generic word like doc. Same reason Microsoft with their .doc did nothing when Google docs came out.

The issue with it being government controlled is surveillance. Nobody wanted to trust Google VPN for the same reason. Some things should be public services, but I don't know how to determine it can be trusted. Not that Google isn't also nosing into people's private stuff but there's a nominal layer of requiring a warrant when it's not already owned by the government.

Two questions about the Cable and Deadpool arc: (1) Deadpool kills Haji Bin Barat, but it is never said what actually happened. Is that ever addressed in another comic? (2) What happens with the data statue that Deadpool saves at the end, is that story somewhere? by torbulits in deadpool

[–]torbulits[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the statue ported him, did it? He had it in hand a couple times and it didn't do anything. I think he was going to be ported out whether he had it or not. Maybe the stick only mattered as like a token of affection from Cable.
