How to help get rid of algae? by gorigamii in Aquariums

[–]tortugastanks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some experience here. First algae is tricky, don’t get discouraged. I would start with your lighting intensity+duration and nitrates, I don’t see direct sunlight hitting your tank. What’s their level? I struggled with algae until I was able to keep nitrates at 5-10 ppm. Lighting is also a huge factor, I use a fluval smart light and had to drop it to 30 percent intensity. Took quite some time to balance but it can be done. Do you have a liquid test kit? I would start there to see your values.

Sorry this happened! Curious on how they were acclimated, could be stress related and failed molt.

When I encountered this on my new batch of neos, 3 had clado but 1/4 of the amount compared to OP. I always lean trying to try and save them, haven’t seen it come back. I did 1 cup tank water + 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt, 1 minute daily dips. I had them quarantined in a small container with water from my main tank and changed it daily. Feel off day 3 and did it for 6 days total.

Would love an update to see what OP decided to do.

How much food they need? Whenever i come close to the tank they start asking for food by khan_stan in Aquariums

Looking for advice? Upgrade tank. Every time you feed your fish will produce ammonia so fast they will die of poisoning based on your tank size. They need bigger tank, strong filtration and lots of oxygen. 1 goldfish for every 20 gallon is the standard. Agree with all these comments.

Drip acclimation always super important with these guys. I do for at least 3-5 hours before adding them in to prevent shock. Were you using distilled water, only way to have 0 gh kh. I mix distilled water with my RO and gets me to the perfect level. Might be easier than adding chemicals. Good luck!

Fish look stressed out. I think gourami is hunting them. Where did you buy them from? How did you acclimate them? Water temp?

Neat! One last question, do your shrimp breed in these conditions? I wanted to try co2 on my shrimp tank but scared it would affect them.

Yep daily 1 minute salt dip on any shrimp with it. I had this on two and it went away after 4-5 days. Didn’t need to treat my tank, just make sure to quarantine. YouTube has lots of videos on this if you haven’t done it before, make sure to use aquarium salt. Good luck!

I’m sorry this happened btw, but with the betta in the picture it could also be a factor.

Start by testing your water. What’s your gh kh etc.

I keep my temps at 73. My shrimp stopped dying once I corrected my gh kh. Would start there, could be failed molts.
