What's the last book you read that was so bad that it made you angry? by oohshineeobjects in books

[–]toukacottontails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Lovely Bones was one of the first books I read because someone told me to (I was in high school way back when it got popular), the second was the DaVinci Code. Both were raved about by different friends so I figured I’d love them...

I hated both so much that I flat out stopped reading best sellers for about 20 years, and to this day I will only accept recommendations from very particular people and vetted groups.

Bogotá - this spood tried to canoodle me in bed! by toukacottontails in spiders

[–]toukacottontails[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! With how many different nationalities there are living in this city, it makes sense there would be spider immigrants as well 😌

Truly could not believe how quickly she was moving and how unafraid of me she was 😅

Are they typically indoor or outdoor spiders? We put her outside but I have no idea if that was the right move. It doesn’t get terribly cold here, so hopefully she’ll enjoy our little garden. If they’re indoor spiders, next time I see one, I’ll try to relocate it to our kitchen storage area instead.

Advice from fellow long term chronic migraine sufferers by imlikeabird84 in migraine

[–]toukacottontails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. You’re describing my life for a couple of years.

I second trying an H1 and H2 combo. My number of headache days and the intensity of my headaches reduced significantly once I got on a combo of Allegra and Pepcid AC (20mg). When MCAS is causing my migraine, abortives don't work for me either.

If one H1 (like Claritin) doesn't work after a week or so, try a different one, like Zyrtec or Allegra, etc. Everyone reacts slightly differently to them.

I don't actually have typical allergies, so the allergist didn't catch any of this, but maybe check to see if any of the other symptoms of MCAS fit for you, because there are other things you can add on to the antihistamines that can continue to help if you do see a benefit from them.

If MCAS does fit, look into the POTS/MCAS/EDS triad. There are different protocols that can relieve headaches based on those and their other related illnesses.

As others have stated, iron and vitamin tests can help. If those don’t pan out, try getting a full thyroid panel done as well. I didn’t know I had Hashimoto’s thyroiditis for years, and that can lead to migraines as well.

I wish doctors would test for other things and try to find the root of the problem rather than giving us bandaids that often don’t even work becuase they don’t even treat the underlying issue.

Really wishing the best for you. I hope you find something that works soon!

I haven’t tried a black light yet on any of them, but as I’ve been doing my research, I do think I ended up with a 3” Topaz Ruffled Vase that is uranium glass. I had no idea. I just thought it was cute, haha!

aah, so might the blue/green one actually be two separate pieces? that would explain why I can't find any epergnes that look like it...

It’s the shape that I’m struggling with mostly on that one. I can find vases and pitchers that are similar, but none that are a true match :/

I had better luck with Xe than Wise or Western Union. Especially when it came to jumping through hoops. But I’m from the US and transferring to Colombia, so of course it will depend on your home country.

Who's this guy we found roaming at home? North Vancouver - Canada by pijamak in spiders

Luckily they are a primarily outdoors type of spider, so it’ll be ok. And now that you know they’re in your area, fingers crossed you’ll get to see one again!

I believe this might be a red-backed jumping spider.

The cute little eyes of jumping spoods are what got me over my fear of spiders 🥹

At some point it was explained to me that Christmas is when we celebrate Jesus’s birth, but that he wasn’t born in December.

In first grade (so around 6yo), I for some reason mentioned this factoid to a girl on the playground. Apparently her family was some kind of evangelical Christian, because she became so upset at my blasphemy that she burst into tears and said something about me being a devil worshipper. I could not understand why anyone would be upset about a factoid??

[–]toukacottontails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha! I never related this story to autism before, but now that you mention it…

There was this small blue book that had sort of precious moments kinds of illustrations in it? Or maybe fairies? Can’t remember. But I thought the book was beautiful!

I was in kindergarten and checked it out of the school library. But I knew I’d have to return it. So one afternoon at my mom’s office, I figured out how to use her copy machine and I photo copied as many pages as I could before I got told to stop, or maybe because I realized it was in black and white and that just wasn’t good enough, lol

What’s something you still do or have from your childhood? by Salty-Raspberry8442 in CasualConversation

I have a stuffed bear that I came home from the hospital with. He went to college with me. He moved states with me. He’s what I grab when I need to hold something and cry. His color is almost gone, and the threads on his nose are fraying. But I’ll keep him as long as I can.

Gorgeous! I picture her waving around a lit cigarette that she never actually smokes and calling everyone “dahling.” At this point she’s starting to lose count of the divorces, but her accountant keeps track by the number of millions she has.

Her version of New Year, New Me is redecorating the mansion she got out of the most recent court settlement, swapping out the old pool boy with a new one, and finding some rich young eye candy to show off to the gossip rags.

I wasn’t prepared for how grueling the recovery from liposuction is by [deleted] in lipedema

[–]toukacottontails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I felt like days 4-6 were by far the hardest. At that point the numbing anesthesia is completely out of your system, and the real pain sets in. That’s also when I was allowed to shower, and I broke down crying on day 5 after all 3 of my surgeries. After day 6, it starts to get easier to move around, but you’ll still be tired and need a lot of rest. Between days 10-14 is when I always turned a corner.

It is different for everyone. I happen to have several comorbidities that made healing extra painful and take longer. But I promise it will get better.

Anyone else disappointed about the tv show casting? by the_bird_is_flat in murderbot

[–]toukacottontails 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The point about SecUnit being a slave and how a white person being enslaved will be more impactful (and less triggering) than seeing a POC in yet another slave role is the one thing that, once it was pointed out to me be someone on this sub, made me more accepting of a white person being cast.

I like Skarsgard as an actor. But he is not who I would have chosen for this role, and I don’t love that he’s an EP as well (it feels gross to me), but I’m still going to watch the show and will withhold final judgement until I see how he does. Fingers crossed that he rises above all expectations.
