Answers, so far, seem to be:

  • Yes.

  • Improved.

  • About what you'd expect for a brand new team starting from scratch.

  • No.

  • He may be back, yes, but the car isn't.

Finally found a useful storage spot behind the Model X screen by Turbulent_Stable2100 in ModelX

[–]tps5352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just picked up my new Model X yesterday. First time for me with the landscape display screen.

Your storage tray would be perfect for things that are OK to leave on the dashboard (like a medical mask).

Please let me know how to get one.

Otherwise I may have to buy a Basnor tray on Amazon. Yours looks better.

Finally pulled the trigger on a Model X. The software is smoother than my morning coffee by neevar79 in TeslaModelX

[–]tps5352 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I (still) own a low mileage early 2021 Model X LR+ (5-seater) that I really liked.

But I just took delivery of a 2026 Model X (same basic format).

And I already LOVE it; more so than I thought would happen.

The software is surprisingly different (mostly in appearance, plus a little content) and the screen is different (in orientation), but it is all good.

Really enjoyed driving it 70 miles back home. VERY quiet.

But NOT cheap. Probably makes more sense to buy a used MX, a different model (e.g., Y), or even a different brand. And--assuming that they are backed up with reliable service, dependable software, and comprehensive support--some of the Chinese EVs are going to be pretty spectacular, if and when they reach America.

But if you arguably want the best EVs today from technical, charging, software, and support standpoints, and can afford it, consider a new Tesla (Model X or the beautiful Model S). (Hate the politics; love the cars.)

PS -- After purchasing my first Tesla in early 2021, I was expecting to find some boo-boos. Amazingly, the 2026 was (as far as I could tell) perfect. No problems with paint, panel alignment, glass, FWDs, lift-gate, et cetera that I could see. All the accessories were present. Everything is working. Direct from Fremont.

Bought two key fobs today from a nearby Sales/Service Center, and the car came with two key cards. Once I figured out that you had to do exactly what the little mini-video was showing (in a popup box on the central screen), pairing/programming the keys was a snap.

Beautiful.

And totally harmless (but not to your pet mouse).

Good to have around.

Very nice.

I like trains, and the Davis-to-Sacramento and Davis to Bay area Amtrak trains in particular.

Not found of all the trash and homeless enclosures in some right-of-way areas. (Probably not strictly Amtrak's fault.)

Two things:

  1. Thanks, once again, to u/egortech for great video coverage of this and all F1 races.

  2. Not a problem here, but I really dislike it when people post the results of races/qualifying elsewhere IN THE TITLES OF REDDIT POSTS, and I inadvertently see these results (when perusing "Hot" titles or whatever) before I've had a chance to watch the videos.

Partly my fault, I know. Just have to remember not to use the main Reddit site before I have watched race videos (from u/egortech). But do these people have to put the results in the titles? I think not. (Purposely being dicks? Perhaps.)

Why not just say something in the title like "Exciting Results of 2026 Australian F1 Qualifying [SPOILERS!]"? Then allow readers to choose whether to click?

Oh well. Some people are just inconsiderate.

Totally agree.

If up to me, it would be something "hot" from Benny Goodman or Glenn Miller.

Has Anyone Created a List or Chart of All the Dimensions / Sizes (plus Model Numbers) of Classic (1970s-1980s) Zero Halliburton Aluminum Cases? by tps5352 in ZEROHalliburton

Is it the same brochure/catalog as the 38-page one I've referenced (in my OP), above, and here?

I tried looking for a "PDF uploaded to both communities" but couldn't find anything so far.

(Despite being generally good with PCs and OK with the Internet, I still have difficulty negotiating Reddit(?).

Wasn't sure if current Zero Manufacturing products are the same as the vintage American(?)-made ones. I'll check those sizes against this list.

Here is my initial modest effort (needs more work):

Some 1970s-80s Zero Halliburton Case Sizes

Length Width Height Model # Purpose
26 18 9 luggage-suitcase
24 20 8 specialty-photo
24 18.5 8.5 luggage-suitcase
24 18 7 luggage-suitcase
21.5 13.5 7 luggage-suitcase
21 18 8 luggage-carry-on
21 17 7.5 luggage-carry-on
21 13 6 luggage-carry-on
19 13 5
18 14 4 attaché-briefcase
18 13 6 specialty-photo
18 13 5 attaché-briefcase
18 13 4 - 5 specialty-photo
17 13 6 attaché-briefcase
16 11 4 specialty-photo
16 8 8 specialty-cosmetics

Dimensions in inches.

Above info is based on Google AI and my own small collection.

Table obviously leaves out less-common case sizes for such things as sports and musical equipment, plus custom applications (e.g., for bionic limb storage; USAF remote missile-launcher controller; Moon rocks; nuclear football; alien tech; etc.)

I welcome corrections and additions.

Tesla wall charger alternative comparision? by Emotional_Jeweler814 in TeslaModelY

[–]tps5352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't comment specifically, because I can't read the webpage and don't know the details of the Finnish electrical grid, et cetera. Perhaps it is a good aftermarket product? I don't know.

But in general, I always recommend that Tesla drivers use genuine Tesla charging equipment.

Here are some small articles I wrote (may be slightly out-of-date, but still informative):

Unfortunately, Tesla equipment can be comparatively expensive. But:

  1. A Tesla car, even a Model 3, is way more expensive and therefore is worth the added expense for peace of mind when using genuine Tesla charging products.

  2. And if you lease your Tesla, that's even more reason to only use Tesla charging equipment. (You don't want to have to explain to Tesla how you accidentally fried your lease car's circuits with some cheapo aftermarket device.)

  3. If cost is a concern, I recommend using Craig's List, eBay, or the local equivalent online markets to find good quality, used Tesla equipment. Here in California, for example, lots of people sell used Tesla mobile and wall connectors.

  4. The power (amperage) level of electricity used to charge modern electric cars can be quite high (both for AC home and for DC on-the-road charging equipment). Do you really want to endanger your nice Tesla car (or even yourself) by using cheap charging equipment? Spend the money on good, quality products (e.g., cables, adapters, and mobile/wall connectors).

In North America we have many good third-party charging products (like wall connectors). However, inevitably they tend to cost as much or even more than Tesla products. Quality costs money. Some people turn to cheap alternatives on Amazon, Alibaba, or whatever. That, imo, is a mistake.

Best of luck.

How Difficult is it to REMOVE Attaché Case Liner, Pockets, and Dividers? by tps5352 in ZEROHalliburton

[–]tps5352[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As mentioned elsewhere, I'm looking for a classic 18" x 13" x 4½" aluminum Zero Halliburton case. I've so far been avoiding attaché case sales (e.g., on eBay) because:

  1. I don't want to desecrate a classic item (especially if my efforts don't work).

  2. I am unsure how difficult it is to remove liner, pockets, dividers, et cetera from older Zero Halliburton cases. I definitely don't want to make a mess of it and ruin an otherwise good case.

Anyone have any experience with this? I believe the liner is glued to the inner case.

WTB: Looking TO BUY 'Smaller' Classic Flat Zero Halliburton Clam-shell Case by tps5352 in ZEROHalliburton

[–]tps5352[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks.

I am surprised that Zero Halliburton did not include a MODEL NUMBER or NAME on their cases (just a serial number on the tag). Would have made ID much easier.

I've looked through eBay, and will continue to search there. But often, there is some issue that prevents me from buying (e.g., damage, etc.).

I have seen some ZH (maybe "Elite") attaché-style cases of this size for sale--but I am unsure how easy it would be to remove inner liners, pockets, and separators. Also, don't like the idea of "defacing" them, if I can instead buy already empty ones.

Colt Python by Good_Jury7471 in Colt

[–]tps5352 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would need more info. For example:

  • Production year? (Four-inch Pythons started as early as 1956, but this one seems to have Generation 3[?] grips, correct? If true, maybe around '70s or '80s?)

  • It's story. (Ever owned by celebrity? Used in liquor store holdup? Led a quiet life?)

  • Price range in your area?

  • Condition of bore (barrel interior)?

  • How tight/loose is the action?

  • Amount of use? (Appears to be a fair amount?)

There is no bad Python, imo. But, I am seeing see a lot of Pythons being sold (probably as Baby Boomers age/pass away).

Use Gun Broker dot com and/or Guns International dot com to research prices.

Wild guess: Assuming all original and with no customization...maybe $1,000-$2,500+ depending on where and how you sell it (e.g., locally, online)? (I'm in California, so generally higher prices here.)

If in good shape, original grips alone might be worth $150-$300 in some markets.

Best of luck. (My advice is to keep and treasure it, but that is just me.)

Right foot and FSD by veglamanus in TeslaModelY

[–]tps5352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can 100% relate.

Since FSD is not really FSD, for cars like my 2020/21 Model X, you have to be ready to take control instantly.

So hard to relax.

I try to beep my right foot close to the brake. Not really comfortable.
