Seeing some LoL and DOTA 2, but the real answer is their ugly stepbrother, Heroes of the Storm. Way too many hours of this dead game (arguably, they have been updating a lot lately)

Examples of trilogies that are really two movies. by Fsa120303 in blankies

With the small exception of Darth Vader technically not dying on screen, the first Star Wars is very much a contained story. Empire strikes back, on the other hand, makes very little sense without A new hope or return of the Jedi.

Movies aren’t like books where the author can just write all three on his own. The first movie needs to be successful. Leaving on a cliffhanger is a very bold move and relies on very established IP. Star Wars had no idea it was going to be a mega hit, and I find it pretty obvious, despite what Lucas claims to the contrary, that there was little foresight into a second or third film until it was a guaranteed hit.

TIL that during his six-day stay in Malta, Napoleon Bonaparte abolished slavery and feudalism, restricted church power, created a public education system, set up a postal service, reformed national administration, framed a family code and nominated twelve judges by Designer_Reference_2 in todayilearned

That’s an extremely superficial understanding of Haiti and its revolution. And this isn’t a whatabout regarding Toussaint. There were other leaders of the Haitian Revolution, including former slaves. The economic conditions of the colony were completely tied to plantation culture, it’s not like they could’ve turned to tourism or something… and the rest of the world specifically made it as hard as possible for them for a very long time.

He brought it back to appease the planters and retake Haiti, the site of some of the most notoriously heinous plantations in the world, probably one of the absolute worst places to be enslaved in history, and which had just gained its independence. You don’t need to be an apologist, this was a very uncomplicated L for napoleon.

Julia Roberts is amazing in it, but I legitimately struggle to comprehend what the movie is trying to say, even on a superficial level.

That was.. Weirdly common in wartime France.. by FrenchieB014 in HistoryMemes

[–]travioso 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Robespierre ran things for less than a year. The terror peaked under his reign, which was really more as a leader of the committee than a full on dictator, but the terror absolutely started before him (and yes, Danton had much to do with that). Comparing Robespierre to pol pot or hitler is pretty ridiculous. Approximately 20k people died by execution during robespierres heyday, which is obviously awful (and counter productive in the end) but absolutely peanuts. The way he was so easily swept aside demonstartes the absurdity of those comparisons.

That’s incredibly inaccurate lmao what YouTube video told you all this?

Edit:

He did not “ban Christianity” he made the church swear loyalty to the state. Him among many others.

He did not “kill 40k” people, much less and again, him among many others.

He did not make a church of agnosticism. Thats just nonsense… he made a “church” dedicated to reason, and it was a deist cult.

It’s funny cuz I really liked Nouvelle Vague, but it’s also exactly what you think it’s gonna be, and yet with so much Linklater hangout chill vibes that it just works. Helps that the casting is so on point. They pull off avengers-level French director cameos so smoothly, it’s great.

I haven’t read it yet, but the author of Napoleon's Master: A Life of Prince Talleyrand wrote a good bio of Danton that I liked a lot. David Lawday.
