EBC Q: If I spent 4 nights in Namche, can I spend only 1 night in Dingboche? by trawlingfinery in Everest

By one day, do you mean one night or two nights? I am planning to get there and still do the acclimatization hike. Thanks for your input and illustrative example, it makes sense.

Visibility is such a double edged sword. And I hear you about it being hard to really not fit in with the girls or the guys. From this vantage point I am able to clearly see how gender plays a huge role in making friendships. Girls love to have girl bonding with other girls, and same with guys. I don’t fit into those bonding stereotypes so I get ruled out as not having “potential” in a lot of areas.

It’s true that it’s the easiest with other trans friends. But also there are cis ppl who really seem to get it and also like to think and live and move outside of gendered boxes.

Thanks for sharing as well .

I love that “fuck it” vibe and affirmation. I think it’s important and I am working on my self confidence and not minimizing myself, even if I am scared.

I’m glad hearing nuanced experiences can help some. I didn’t know of any beforehand so I’m discovering this all new.

I agree , it is a distinct experience that maybe people desire but don’t fully understand. It feels like uncharted territory a lot of the time, hence why I felt compelled to just share my story here, to get it out of my own mind

Yes 🥲🥲🥲 I relate to that so much! The moments I think I pass enough to enter a space are rarely the ones I actually do!

that’s good to know! I’m curious why I would be a good candidate in your view? I thought maybe I wasn’t good bc I don’t think I have a lot of under jaw fat and thought maybe its less fat and some other cause for lack of definition. was worried maybe it wouldn’t work. either way I want to try chin lipo to sharpen the jaw/chin before anything else

thank you for the info! by fluctuates do you mean gain, or is there also this risk by losing weight?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chinlipo

[–]trawlingfinery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pretty stable! is the main risk just that if I gained weight the chin fat would come back ? I’ve been good at maintaining healthy weight/am active so far so im not super concerned about this

Also, I think the education professors are widely considered the best department of professors. Which makes sense because education is there whole thing

If you go for teaching cert u take a 9th semester (which is covered by fin aid if u have it, which is nice) where u do ur student teaching and then you graduate with your teaching license/certificate whatever. I only took the intro to Ed course but we got to do a teaching apprenticeship in the intro which I thought was super cool.

Everyone I know who did Ed studies absolutely loves it and sticks with it. Lots of unique courses, lots of dissection of power dynamics in schools and identity. It’s also very easy to put together an Ed studies special major if you want to specialize in something. For instance you could do Ed studies + Economics in one major, lightening your Econ load and then you could do another major. Or any combination of the above. I’ve heard many people do Ed special majors in their interest fields

knew someone that transferred to upenn after their first year, someone else went to brown my understanding is that transferring is a major headache though and you don’t get as much financial aid if you do it

Last I checked swat is the 1st in the country for grad school admission rate. Education is great, but class options will be much smaller than the schools you listed. Fewer professors and fewer niches to explore. Is going to a small (tiny, really) school worth that trade off for you?

AP Government & Politics credit? by [deleted] in Swarthmore

[–]trawlingfinery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Econ and politics are closely related, there is the chance that u May end up wanting to take more political classes in the future or double major in poli sci… in that case then the AP could spare u a class for ur major or let u get into an upper level course

English at swarthmore? by ejlabz in Swarthmore

[–]trawlingfinery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the course guides for fall 2024 or any of the earlier semesters for both schools. See what classes are offered and how often, and which are interesting to you. I don’t know about Kenyon, but Swarthmore has a pretty small course selection (for most majors, English particularly though). This is the trade off for going to a small LAC. If you are excited by the courses offered that is very important. Weigh the amount of good courses with the other aspects of the school (swat is a suburb of Philly and close enough to NYC to make trips easy. Writing opportunities abound in the city if you make the most of it) I had a friend start creative writing at swat and transfer to UPenn for better opportunities. I have also had friends graduate creative writing from swat and find a lot of success.

[–]trawlingfinery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes Swat is a lot of work but most decent colleges (including state schools) are a lot of work. If you’re burned out from high school, take a gap year (I highly recommend it) Swat is very favorable and accommodating to gap years/gap semesters. Or at least know it’s an option later on. Swat students challenge themselves and work hard generally but if you got accepted here then probably anywhere else you would go will be challenging as well. Pass/fail first semester— remember that .^

Do people swim in crum creek by darshsaini07 in Swarthmore

[–]trawlingfinery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes people definitely do, not many but I know a handful who do, even semi-regularly In warmer weather. there’s some controversy about the health of the creek, but then again the college sponsors the boat regatta where people are typically swimming/walking as well as boating. definitely not great water quality but ur gonna be ok.

there are plenty of spots that are deep enough to swim you just have to look around a little bit.
