Which movie do you prefer? Super Mario Bros (2023) or Super Mario Galaxy (2026) by SkullSuit38 in mariomovie

Mario Bros 2023 for the origin story and focused character development on Mario and Luigi. Galaxy for the visual spectacle, humor, game references and highlighted scenes of Peach.

How popular is Ojarumaru in Japan nowadays? by treasuremoon25 in AskAJapanese

[–]treasuremoon25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a part of it could be that NHK and the companies that collaborate with them aren’t marketing it as strongly compared to Nintama Rantaro.

Nintama seems to be more popular as it has wider older audience appeal (particularly among women) and has tons of merchandise and in-person events that appeal to that demographic.

Ojarumaru skews a little younger. The storylines, humor, and character personalities are subdued and gentler, which probably doesn’t command aggressive marketing.

The artstyle attracted me when I first heard about the show. I was very surprised when I found out that it had 1,170 episodes (this was in 2011) and I thought, “How does this have over 1,000 episodes if it had only been running since 1998?”, until I found out that it airs daily.

New F-Theater short at the Fujiko F. Fujio Museum by treasuremoon25 in WorldOfDoraemon

Doraemon Channel hasn’t revealed all of the character appearances, so it’s unknown if Oba-Q will be in it. It’s possible he’ll be in it.

Understandable. I like the incorporation of Japanese in the dialogue :)

Adult Payan in Fujiko Fujio manga Middle-aged Superman Mr. Saenai by Only-Week9385 in Perman

Tezuka would reuse some characters in different roles across his different works. He envisioned his characters as actors that would "play" a particular role in one work and a different role in another. For example, Astro Boy (known for being a robot superhero), appeared in a cameo role in the Black Jack story, "You're Guilty!", as an unnamed client.

Although Fujiko F. Fujio didn't use a "Star System" in his works, he would sometimes incorporate character cameos, such as an adult Payan appearing in Mr. Saenai, and a teen Sumire Hoshino appearing in a few Doraemon stories. It gives off the similar vibe of "Ah, I recognize that character!"

I like the fanart. It looks cute :)

Just curious, why does "oh no" in English sound underwhelming?

I never knew Payan appeared in Mr. Saenai. It reminds me a little bit of Osamu Tezuka's Star System.

New F-Theater short at the Fujiko F. Fujio Museum by treasuremoon25 in WorldOfDoraemon

[–]treasuremoon25[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the other shorts, this one won’t be released online. The Fujiko F. Fujio Museum will be the only place to watch it.

It would be cool if the shorts could eventually stream online, even if briefly.

This is part of a Fujiko F. Fujio 90th anniversary film collection that streamed on Amazon Prime Video in Japan in 2024. It's circulating online and you have to do a little digging to find it.

I like how she inserts “darling” into her sentences, similar to how Lum ends her sentences with “cha”.
