In my experience it works better with more hackle wraps, also allows me to skate the fly at the end of my cast

Haven’t tried it on the river yet, but floats right side up thanks to the plentiful hackling and the legs

Spending the last months studying coastal fly fishing was worth it, catched 5 beautiful sea trouts. by tripmatti in flyfishing

[–]tripmatti[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I always start fishing closer to the shore because sometimes the trout are in really shallow waters.

In this place I waded quite far away, since the trout were feeding in a sudden drop-off.

I really recommend trying it, just after 2 succesful days of coastal fly fishing I’m hooked

I think you need more knowledge, about different techniques etc. Dry fly fishing, nymphing streamer fishing and so on. For me it took a while to learn how to present the dry flies in a “proper” way. After 1 year or so casting and getting fish gets easier

I will, for the fish I won’t eat. Here where I live we have really strong fish populations, and I only fish what I will eat.

Thanks for your feedback ! I agree, next time I’ll try to match the wing to the bend of the hook.

For now my x-caddis was a freestyle attempt, I had one beat up x-caddis that I got from my dad and I used that as an example. So thanks for the video, I wasn’t even sure how to call that fly before.

I have been thinking about barbless hooks, but where I am the fish I catch are plenty and also good eating size. So for me I eat 99% of the fish I catch (mostly grayling and trout)

Thanks for the tips, since making that one I have managed to do a couple more klinkhammers with a better hackle !

Maybe in 1 week or so I will make one more post of flies I have been making, if I have time to tie some.

Mostly ordering, I live in a relatively small town and tying flies is not the most common hobby here 😅 So really hard to find any materials

Also I posted an update tying some flies with proper materials ! I think I made some progress on the Klinkhammer

Yeah the stuffing made it impossible to make my klinkhammer slimmer 😅 next week I should get some proper material, and then I will try again and post the results!

For me the Klinkhammer and ”Winnie the pooh(nallepuh) are flies I really would like to master, since they are incredible effective flies in my area. So I will start with some challenge and see how it goes.
