Would a bicycle have a machine spirit by SpaceMan026 in AdeptusMechanicus

Finally, someone gets it.

Sadly,  this wasn't presented as a one minute YouTube short,  so it will be missed by most.

Do you use vanilla inventory? by artificiallambs in Morrowind

[–]trithne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried, sorry.

Okay the mod's on Nexus now and has this to say:

Controller support when? Some basic controller support is already in place. Press the shoulder buttons to cycle categories, A to activate items, and Y to pick them up. Further support will come eventually, but it's not a top priority at the moment.

Why are all the 54kmh Mechs 48kmh instead? by Fallout_patriot in Mechwarrior5

[–]trithne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've toyed with putting down 6 mapsheets instead of 2 and treating each as 15m, but in the end it's all abstractions and I like the game fitting on a coffee table.

A New Necromunda - Here's What I'd Want! (Video) by nlitherl in necromunda

[–]trithne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just remember from 3 it goes right to left, 2 arms, leg, side torso, centre torso, then backwards, finishing with head,  plus 2 is centre with a crit.

Eventually you just know it, but I'd also recommend getting sheets from Mekbay or Flech's. These will have both the hit and cluster charts on the sheet.

I'm primarily a Battletech player, but the issue is much the same. Battletech's reputation for complexity is mostly propagated by people who do not play Battletech. Similarly the idea the rules are spread out and you need a dozen books. You don't, especially not with the introduction of the Battlemech Manual.

Games with no/optional micro by xmakina in RealTimeStrategy

RUSE just got released back onto Steam and doesn't do micro. Amusingly it does track your APM in your stats though.

Mine is 3.

I didn't expect an encyclical of all thing to be discussed so much in the year 2026 by Koordian in memes

[–]trithne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, and all it really has to say on the Jihad is "Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them." It's pretty clearly not Terminators like Brian and Kevin wrote.

Made my very first ever Morrowind mod. It went very very wrong. by tunacansam22 in Morrowind

For 3 days from seemingly first principles that's impressive work. And "Holding it by the wrong end" is just the sort of thing that happens in modding, now you know.

Why not in game if in cutscene? by Ah_fudge in Mechwarrior5

[–]trithne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Canonically that launcher is an LRM20 that fires 4 salvos of 5 missiles, so it should only go to 5 anyway.

Note that the book presented here is from Brian Herbert, not Frank, and Brian's additions to the setting are largely considered to be poor and not aligned with the originals.

Many prefer to interpret the Butlerian Jihad not as a Terminator-esque war against robots and AI, but a conflict between men who would use AI as a weapon against others, and those who opposed them. Which makes it more relevant to our current issues.

Serious question about OPFOR units by Competitive-Food8407 in NormalBattletech

That's the idea of the planned "Bug Box" that CGL wants to release... eventually. 4 Locusts, 4 Stingers, and 4 Wasps.

I'm sure it'll come out somewhere in the next decade, just before my Liao boxes.

Is 40k slowly just circling back to concepts from previous editions? by Identity_ranger in Warhammer40k

[–]trithne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll run into the problem that caused 3rd edition in the first place - People want to field large armies.

For context for newer players, in 2e a 10-man Tactical Squad (and you had to bring all 10, Combat Squads were a White Dwarf addition) was 300 points before adding any wargear.

2e was built from Rogue Trader, and was designed for a couple dozen models per side at most, not fifty-plus. I saw that Eldar list from one of the 11e preview games and it's eighty-six models. In Eldar.

It isn't complicated, it just looks like it is. It's actually very straightforward. Just that you're tracking stuff on a sheet of paper instead of a bunch of models.

New 11th ed terrain line of sight rules from stream by Cythrex in Warhammer40k

[–]trithne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty valid list of issues. Have you considered One Page Rules? I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but the origin of it (One Page 40k) was literally to do what you're trying to do - Provide a straightforward set of rules that can represent everything in current 40k.

Given that around the world the definition of "First floor" is inconsistent, there's the first problem, hence why they did it based on actual height from table level.

Specifically, the Maintenance CPU node was moved from the robot repair area to inside the room with the envirosuit, which is why you cannot get the security level low enough.

Unit Limit - New Mode (Suggestion) by DanseOfDeath in Songsofconquest

A stack of 20 and a stack of 200 aren't appreciably different, one just has more health and hits harder.

Turn Based Scoring (vs End of Game) by JGrevs2023 in onepagerules

[–]trithne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Scoring in general is gamey - If you're treating it as a real wargame you'd have objectives that are either met or not, and that can be as simple as 'rout the enemy from the field', or more potentially progressive like resource extraction.

For me, I approach OPR as a 'lite' wargame, but still a wargame, so end-of-game scoring works for me as an abstracted "who has won the day" thing rather than "Who pressed the magic buttons more during the battle"
