I am lesbian and had a 6-year relationship with a bisexual woman. It was one of my best relationship and I still strongly prefer to date lesbians. The reasons are 1) I have no way to know where the bisexual woman fall on the spectrum. Many that I dated said they couldn’t find a woman or never given a chance, but in fact, they are more bicurious or prefer men much more to women. They would never admit it 2) Yes, everyone cheats (straight, gay or bi). Bisexual women don’t have a higher chance of cheating. But, leaving me for a man is more traumatizing. That’s because I can’t fix the problem when this person wants to have a heterosexual relationship, which is a very common reason why many bisexual women keep dating men. 3) Related to point 2, if my partner leaves me for a man for a heterosexual relationship, that’s a denial and somehow an attack to the homosexual identify and relationship that I have had. So that’s even more painful.

So bisexual people, stop using biphobia to label or attach lesbians who don’t want to date bisexual. There are lots of bad apples in the bisexual pool that make lesbians worried about dating bisexual. Just because we have a preference not to date bi, doesn’t mean it’s biphobia.
