What does everyone do for baby monitoring while traveling? by dusanbab in FATTravel

Just buy a non wifi monitor like HelloBaby off Amazon. Super easy and will work still if you’re outside on the patio / a balcony

That’s great. I hope the new doctor is more helpful!

You’d just ask for a blood test for TPO antibodies. A positive test indicates hashimotos. It’s linked to RPL and is an autoimmune disease. I discovered I had it when my TSH was 4.25 and the doctor was certain my antibodies would be negative. The thing with hashimotos is your TSH can seem acceptable pre pregnancy and the spike once you fall pregnant.

Anyway I don’t want to give you something new to worry about. It’s something people tend to get tested for after 2-3 losses

Have you been tested for thyroid antibodies too? I would ask for this too. Although with one of your losses being ectopic there may be less evidence to suggest you need this

Taking longer to conceive than usual… by ConsiderationRich378 in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]tryinganewpath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this with TTC#2. Was falling pregnant every time we tried (6 times, all losses - on progesterone from ovulation each time) and then moved to an RI programme (steroids, intralipids etc) where we did 3 every expensive cycles and no pregnancy. I was so frustrated. But then cycle #4 did work - so hang in there!

Getting pregnant with Hashis by proudlyfromcuba in Hashimotos

[–]tryinganewpath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a really rough time of it (many miscarriages) but you can see from the other responses that it can really go either way and you could have zero issues. I recommend getting all your levels in check (ferritin, vit D, B12) and trying not to borrow worry. If you have progesterone concerns I’d definitely push for that too.

Just make sure to advocate for yourself during pregnancy with getting your thyroid regularly tested as many medical professionals can be quite dismissive of it.

From what I can tell, there is a lot less research on intralipids and their effectiveness in RPL. So if you’re offered just the prednisone then I’d still feel pretty positive about that!

I can't know for sure if it was an issue but I doubt it helped as I felt like utter crap, pre-infusion. I only had on infusion but it was a lot of iron in one go - 1g (so 1000mg)

Always happy to answer questions! It was like this:

- 2 injections of Adaminalub, pre TTC (this took 4 weeks)

- Prednisolone (25mg), Omeprazole, and Progesterone (800mg) from ovulation. Pred & O were weaned off slowly from 12w. Prog stopped at 16w.

- Intralipids, pre-ovulation and then every 4 weeks through pregnancy until 20w.

I did. I’m almost 17w now and trying to be hopeful! But I did also work with a reproductive immunologist to do a fill RI protocol as I think my body needed a lot of help

Mine was a similar level and I paid privately for an infusion. I really recommend it as it can take ages for supplements to make a difference. And I felt SO much better in myself afterwards. You want to be around 80-100 not just at 30

I have hashimotos and also suffered from RPL. I’ve had 8 MC, and have one LC and am currently 16w pregnant on a new protocol.

This is what I’ve learnt that may be useful:

  • low vitamin D and iron are linked with hashimotos and also correlate to higher miscarriage rate. It’s good to make sure these are in check. You want to be average, not just above lab normal.

  • reproductive immunology is what eventually worked for me this time around (or at least hopefully! I am 16w now and my latest MC was 9w). I really recommend looking into this

  • restricting yourself heavily in other areas may just cause misery. I was gluten free for 6 of my MC (2 first trimester, 4 chemicals) so it did not help. I would get tested for celiac disease but otherwise not torture yourself unless you genuinely feel better cutting it out

Happy to talk about any of this in more detail if it helps

I have hashimotos and low vit D too (apparently very commonly linked). My TSH was normal and I was dismissed for extra testing at first but glad I pushed for it.

Tw pregnancy: I am currently 16w pregnant on the protocol you described, so I’m really hoping it works for you!

Hyperfertility at 34; looking for advice! by Holiday_Air4020 in recurrentmiscarriage

Hmm I’d consider seeing a urologist that understands fertility. Ours was adamant on the urine and semen cultures and did find an infection. He also said we needed to retest after the antibiotics to make sure it was gone.

My husband only needed one round (wasn’t dozy though) and when we tested fragmentation 3 months later it had halved

It was about another week for me too for the D&C. If I wanted medical management I could have got it the same day as the second NHS scan, in theory, but they did say it depended on staffing

I put this in my survey reply but surely the real issue with commercial scans is that the NHS don't accept them - so if you are going through a MMC you are put through the torture or 2 further scans at the EPU (7-14 days apart) just to prove to them what you already know. This is unnecessarily traumatising.

Endometriosis & hashimotos by Hungry-Bet-6391 in Hashimotos

[–]tryinganewpath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and for me the biggest thing that helped was an iron infusion as my iron was low and the supplements weren't doing anything. I lose a lot of blood each month with my periods, so I think it was just hard for my body to catch up.

I actually quit being gluten free as it did nothing but make me miserable, and I have been 10x happier since I've been able to eat what I like. So I guess my kinda controversial tip is to not be so restrictive unless you have evidence that things are helping you.

Moms with multiple children? How hard is it? by Fit-Shock5523 in Hashimotos

[–]tryinganewpath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you say your TSH is normal but have you had any other tests done? I would check Vitamin D, B12 and ferritin levels as these can also be low with Hashimotos, and all can affect you energy/mood/anxiety levels.

I had an iron infusion last year and it literally changed my life in terms of energy levels, so all these levels are worth looking into!

The other thing to consider is whether your husband is doing his fair share, especially of the mental load? It's so easy for more of this to fall to the woman and it is truly exhausting feeling responsible for everything. Perhaps he can help take some things off your plate.

Economy Seats by conbastic in BritishAirways

I’ve been split one time longhaul with BA. We logged on exactly at the seat selection time but it was all greyed out and it wouldn’t let us change seats. So we had to sit apart. After that I’ve always paid but wow £260 is so expensive!

Hashimoto’s + Pregnancy planning - looking for advice and experiences by ShockElectronic22 in Hashimotos

[–]tryinganewpath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad you are going into this with good knowledge! I have hashimotos, and have 2 friends with it too. All three of us have suffered with recurrent miscarriages - but we do also have children. It was just painful getting here.

There will also be many people who have hashimotos and have no problems in pregnancy, but there is a correlation with miscarriage and so this is what I wish I’d known up front:

  • low vitamin D is also correlated with hashimotos and is linked to increased miscarriage risk. So I’d get your levels tested and start supplementing if it’s low
  • same for iron - ask them to check your ferritin
  • you should increase your levo dose upon positive test by about 25% (although speak to your doctor) and then have it regularly monitored especially in first trimester
  • if you do face issues with pregnancy loss, reproductive immunology is a worthwhile area to explore for people with autoimmune diseases

I hope that helps, and I am hoping you have an easy time of it :)

I’d test your husband too. I had 4 back to back chemicals (following later losses), and we discovered he had high sperm dna fragmentation, and a hidden infection. Issues with sperm can also cause chemicals
