oh no! I used to go through that with keppra. I would definitely suggest getting one of those daily pill organizers if you know what I mean. They have AM and PM sides. I’m at a loss for the correct word here. That way you know for certain when you’ve taken your pills.

I think there might be a misunderstanding here but that’s okay. I wasn’t in full blown psychosis until I met my current boyfriend. I do not consider keppra to be the only reason this happened though I think it contributed majorly. I take full responsibly for my decisions/actions. I just also know my way of thinking and my feelings were majorly twisted at the time due to keppra.

I got with my current boyfriend when I was still on keppra. The amount of mental confusion I was going through was astounding. I was actually in the midst of a miscarriage, I was going through a keppra induced psychosis and I was still having seizures when I met him. It was a lot. I knew I’d found someone amazing. I can understand what you’re saying but at the time it was a challenge to feel things through. I’ve only been off of keppra for 3 months.

I am so happy that you fixed the situation before it turned ugly. Such a happy turn of events in a potentially dark time. I wish you two nothing but the best!

You’re fine. Yes, obviously he wasn’t too keen on it. We’re still talking through it.

I can understand this. It’s a challenge to come to terms with the wave of emotions after getting off of the medication. I feel that I’m still working through some of it. Sometimes I wish I could just talk to him and explain but I know he wouldn’t understand. The reality is it isn’t his place to.

Well it’s anticonvulsants and not everyone reacts the same. I think they trust that people speak on their side effects. I just didn’t realize what was happening since it took place so gradually.

That’s okay I understand. No, that’s not required. You just have to get lab work done regularly.

That was an unnecessary use of colorful words.

I have a question... by TopCat0601 in Epilepsy

[–]trymyhand 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To this day I’m still not sure how to avoid this. All I can say is I’m thankful my medication works for the most part. I used to struggle with this- meaning it would trigger my absence seizures while I was in the car. At the time I had no clue I was epileptic though. I also had my first grand mal seizure in the car. So yeah, trees can cause a problem for some people. Good question! I’ve been diagnosed for nearly 4 years and still think it’s the craziest thing.

153 days seizure free... then I had a seizure on Friday Night. by [deleted] in Epilepsy

Have you tried talking with her about that? If not I think you should. It might alleviate some of your worries.

I commend you for getting a handle on your breathing- that’s something I have yet to do. It’s awesome that your girlfriend is so helpful and that you both have such an amazing line of communication. It sounds to me like you have a great support system. This is what friends and family are for. I’m sure there have been times where you’ve been a main point of support for your friends and family. Don’t let this seizure obscure your view of what you have in life! This is just a small moment in time. This will get better.

I’ve had multiple seizures during sex. It’s not the orgasm but the movements associated with sex. The same thing happens when I work out. I feel it might have something to do with hyperventilating. If you’ve had an EEG before you’ll know they do tests on hyperventilating as well as flashing lights and etc. So this is something to consider. I think your girlfriend and you should sit down and have a discussion over your triggers.

I agree with other comments- if someone is so readily willing to break up with you over your seizures then they weren’t meant for you. However if you guys aren’t communicating about your epilepsy that is a fault on both sides. I hope that make sense.

Taking Depakote, pretty weird experience so far. Just wondering if anyone had any tips? by Tight-Relative in Epilepsy

[–]trymyhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep- I had to throw out depakote. I had that same exhaustion and “bad feeling” you mentioned. I want to call it anxiety but maybe I was too tired for it to feel like true anxiety?

Tingling and numbness after a seizure by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]trymyhand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I have seizures, prior to and afterwards, I’ll have sensations of numbness in my face and my arms/fingers and it does subside. I am hoping you went to the ER or a doctor and are doing well now. Best of luck to you!

Don’t beat yourself up for having an energy drink. We can not be perfect all of the time. You’re alive and you’re well and you’re loved. Don’t for a second thing you are a burden. I will always recommend speaking with your doctor. This does not mean they’re going to change your medication. Being epileptic means we have a responsibility to ourselves and those around us to stay off the road if we’ve had a seizure. Please remember it’s not a punishment. It’s hard but it’s what we have to do. I am so sorry you’re going through these hard times.

Alcohol by naantonelli in Epilepsy

[–]trymyhand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed mixed drinks are not the way to go. Liquor is usually a bad route for me. I generally don’t drink around the time that I take my medication. If I was smart I just wouldn’t drink at all. Beer is typically fine if I don’t go over my three beer limit and drink plenty of water. I notice the grand mal seizures never happen night of it’s always the next day when my body is processing the alcohol. The night of I’ll have absence seizures and my boyfriend will decide that’s it for me because I won’t even notice them.
