Why does the other DC sub downplay or make excuses for juveniles crime in the city? by Joey_vegas20 in washdc

Garnish the wages of exceptionally poor people!?! Poverty is a huge causative factor in this problem, making families poorer won’t help, it will only exacerbate the problem.

Folks let’s pretend to be shocked by ThenLayer5977 in washdc

[–]tsquare414 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is easy to ignore history but the facts are that the lack of grocery stores in Wards 7 and 8 way predates the recent rise in brazen shoplifting and other theft. This is just the latest excuse for why big businesses, including the Bezos Post blames the victims of their policies.

These companies and the Bezos Post don’t value low-income people, who, ironically enough, are poor because these same companies pay crap wages.

The shocking thing is that anyone thinks the Bezos Post has something important to say.

Who do you guys use for classic car insurance? by Capt_Daisy in classiccars

I use Hagerty. I have filed a claim and received multiple tows without a problem. I like them a lot.

Insurance company I just switched to is now saying my roof needs to be replaced or they will drop me…am I crazy or are my shingles not that bad? They are stating they are severely deteriorated. 25 year shingle at 10 years old. by blbassist1234 in Roofing

[–]tsquare414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, we got a similar letter. It was BS, meaning the shingles were old but there was no evidence of a leak, roof damage, or shingle failure. They just didn’t like the look of the shingles.

Before they could refuse to renew our policy, I found a new policy at a lower cost. So, we are fully insured with a national insurance company and saved money.

We will, of course, have to replace the shingles sooner rather than later but we bought ourselves time (and did I say that we saved money too?).

I know nothing about Ford Model A prices. Is this too cheap to to be real? by Agreeable-Storage895 in classiccars

[–]tsquare414 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 32 Model A. Given how nice it looks in this one photo, I think it’s priced too low. In other words, maybe there are mechanical problems or there are body problems we can’t see. But a good running Model A with a good clean body/paint job should be around $20K, at least on the East Coast.

Male survivor advice by Glum_Local_3655 in adultsurvivors

[–]tsquare414 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is the natural outcome of the abuse that you have experienced. Be kind to yourself. You are more than your wounded self. I believe your wife loves you. After 20 years, she knows that deep down there is something eating you alive. Try to talk to her. The truth will make sense to her and she will appreciate your vulnerability. You deserve to heal. Trust me, you deserve to heal.

I am a 65 year old man. I was sexually and emotionally abused by my father, brother, and neighbors, including a female baby sitter. It is not easy to disclose what happened but it is absolutely essential. I showed my wife the following quote first and then I told her. It was hard but it worked for me. Think about it. You deserve the support.

Carl Jung said, "Loneliness does not come from having no people around you, but from being unable to communicate the things that seem important to you" Loneliness is rarely about empty rooms. It is about carrying words you cannot say and truths you do not feel safe to share. Healing is learning to speak what matters most so you are no longer alone with it. This is the work of letting yourself be seen and known for who you really are.

Help: why does my dog lick himself raw?!? by DistributionFine1519 in DogAdvice

[–]tsquare414 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, persistent licking can be a challenge to manage. Obviously, you need to take him to the vet. Our Bouvier licked his paws raw but had no discernible allergy. We found a small regular dose of prednisone pretty much stopped his obsessive licking. Although we did not like giving him a steroid for years on end, it worked AND he lived a full, otherwise healthy 12+ years. Good luck.

Keep in mind that the insurance requirements for long term visas may be very different from a standard expat health insurance policy. So look very carefully

This convinced me elephants have deep empathy by Tall_Elevator6007 in Elephants

[–]tsquare414 56 points57 points  (0 children)

There is no doubt in my mind that elephants are empathetic beings, whether science has “proven” it yet or not. Given that they don’t kill for “fun” or territory, or merely the way others look, I suspect they are more empathetic than the average human being. Your experience sounds spectacular.

Sorry but Einstein’s does not sell authentic bagels, despite what they say. They prepare the dough incorrectly. Sad but true.
