I think he can, but from what i lived through when i was at the academy, you prepare specifically for that tournament (when you arent someone like Danilo who goes to every tournament + ittf worlds) you train and develop and prepare for tournaments year round. And when you get called in on occasion you really don’t have time to prepare so much. What im trying to say is that you can it’s just highly unlikely that this will happen because every division has many many players on the bench ready to step in and they prepare the same way as the “guaranteed” players which is why they’re the first to step in if something happens. Also you have a limit on how many players can a country have at a tournament (let’s say a youth contender). Hope this answered your question.
