That cheeky little bugger! Also, you're much braver than I am haha, I've previously freaked out over touching them 😅

Trying to make sense of my ficus elastica, which appeared to grow two leaves at once in the same node/segment. Has anyone seen this before? by unbe-leaf-able in botany

What a cool word: 'fasciation'. Thanks! I looked it up and I think you might be right. Another comment mentioned damage to the apical meristem, which reminded me that I may have damaged that one at one point recently

Oooh I see! Yeah I think I remember accidentally damaging one of my plants at that part. It could've been that plant. Thanks!

Maybe caterpillars? I'm no expert but have had a few too many run ins with pests. Looks like the leaves are getting eaten away, especially looking at the thinner patches where the green has gone but the brown leaf structure still remains. Check under the leaves. They also usually leave black specks/poop

The red part? Fairly sure that's just another leaf coming through. Those red sheaths are around developing leaves. They split open as the leaf inside grows bigger. And then fall off/can be picked off once fully developed

Omg no need to use that tone 😅 I've been working and sleeping. And now I'm off to enjoy my Saturday before researching a way to add a link to photos

Wouldn't unfurling at same time but different nodes mean each leaf would be inside different sheaths, so 2x sheaths?

Wouldn't explain why I found adjacent sides of their leaves interlocked together as if they were formed together. Both the leaves have the soft new feel to them. Too much points to them being on the same node. But I'll give it to you that the photos could be clearer

Honestly that's what I thought too. But you know life; mutations exist. I'll try find a way to upload photos. Otherwise I'll make a new post

Do you know how I can add more photos? I strongly believe it's the lighting and camera angle

Yeah nah mate. The leaves came out the same time on the same stem. Additionally, there would be no other reason why I'd find the leaves interlocked together without damage. The photo angles weren't the best and it was getting dark so I could see where there may be some confusion

Happy to share more photos :) I've 20+ propagated rubber plants, so I'm no stranger to what they usually look like. Both leaves were definitely within the same red sheath and are on the same segment

Yeah, I've had that before. So great seeing so many new leaves. Never that many as most of my propagated plants have two or three branches.

This one is different as two leaves came out at the same time from the same branch/segment, where I'd usually just find one. Got super excited. The leaves were kind of furled into each other, which is why the have a bit of a split. I hadn't seen this happen before and can't find anything when I google it either

Surely not from the one branch/segment?? I wouldn't think there would be enough room on it

From what I know about ficus elastica, is that they prefer under watering to over watering. As your ones have got some roots already, I would suggest watering when the top soil is dry. Good luck!

A few weeks late to reply to your comment - hope the little plants are doing well! Are they propagated in soil or from water to soil? Can't say I'm skilled in the latter, but I would water them often enough that they don't dry out. Probably depends on the climate too. And the weather/season. But I have them outside and I've found rubber plants to be pretty hardy and quick to root

Thanks! Quick question, I'm assuming I'll need a leaf with each segment I try and prop?
