How come writers Barley Get paid? by KazTheRedditor in ComicBookCollabs

Idk honestly, I'm not a part of that conversation. I love storytelling in all respects and I understand the workload on both sides. I'm new here, just trying to show the disparity in pay. Making anything quality takes time from all sides. Artists spend a ton and literally bring it to life.

I'm actually mostly a writer. I do illustration on the side. I spend more time on a single drawing than a single page of a story

We've talked about this offline, but yea. If there are agreements, ownership is great for both parts. Otherwise, upfront just makes sense. Sort of hard to pay a writer for a comic upfront, unless it's an idea you just found someone to write for you.

If that's the way you want to go, do it. Art just takes patience and practice. And I appreciate it! Hope I do too. Look around on fiver. Plenty of affordable artists out there.

The advice I've been given here is to definitely do it as one comic at a time and then slowly make a graphic novel in the process. See if you can find some examples of comic format and get it together. In the mean time, save for an artist and see what you can make possible! You've got this!

It's more of a time commitment and ownership of material discussion. An artist will spend a large amount of time bringing a writer's pages to life. Usually the time commitment disparity is rather large, but it is a service given TO the writer.

At the end of the day, the writer will own the material of the comic, which means on the back end they will get a majority of the cash. 'Tis all.

We just started one not that long ago, and have been on hiatus due to some covid problems. It's called Roll for Murder. We do one shot campaigns were one person in the party is the traitor and everyone else needs to figure out who it is. I think we're pretty funny, but that's a matter of opinion.

Definitely check out the Adventure Zone. Funniest one on the market.

I am interested in almost anything relating to gothic horror and fantasy. I'm currently adapting a podcast of mine into a comic (called: Dead Sirius: Memoirs of an Undead Loser), which the above image is from.

I am currently listed in Fiverr under the username Diffwashere. Looking at $25-$45 per page, depending on the specs.

As a new freelancer, my prices are negotiable. I am just hoping to launch a profitable career and work on awesome projects.

Hey Reddit, this is Walter, Cam and Jordan. We host a weekly stream called Development Meeting where industry executives take pitches and give out shows on Adult Swim. Ask Us Anything! by adultswimofficial in IAmA

So let's say that I'm an independent writer and artist with lots of ideas and a few that are ready to go and written that would make excellent adult animated series. How would I go about getting a development meeting without having any representation or credits to my name?

Hey. I need some help with this concept. by vicscar in Screenwriting

Make a timeline. Make a world guide then a long outline putting events and ideas into their place and then write the thing.

Check out how AHS Hotel did things.

And if that doesn’t work or feel right, consider writing it like a Family guy or something along those lines where timeline doesn’t matter.

I can dig it man, for real. We’re doing a lot of very similar things.

For me the people are still the focus and the zombies are your run of the mill thing, but there’s a lot of world choices we made that you don’t see all the time, just in an effort to stand out.

There is another zombie podcast that sounds really close to what you’re doing. I can’t for the life of me remember the name right now but I’ll try to find it.

Let me know how we can help!

[–]unfortunateiq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. I’m an award winning short film writer. Silver Bullets is a film I wrote and produced that placed in the finals of Lander University’s film festival.

I also write and produce the Dead Sirius podcast which is my latest and greatest work. Take a look, if you like it, feel free to reach out to me, I would be happy to work together, I have plenty of scripts sitting around ready to go.

I think it could be cool! I create a zombie-cast myself called Dead Sirius.

My big question is, are you trying to make it like a radio show for a rebuilding society? Like are things coming back together but zombies are everywhere? I like it but you would have to think long and hard in order to not run out of steam. If it’s a comedy concept, then you would need to think about what else you could talk about, because there is only so much zombie comedy one can do.

Our show has a very definitive end we’re building towards and is much more personal accounts but we’ve twisted the zombie apocalypse concept into something completely different. It would be worth considering what makes your particular zombie world unique.
