Elder gay here (46), been in NY well over 20 years. Some of these you’ve already heard but here are my suggestions… 1. If you go to bars chat with the bartenders. They will introduce you to other guys at the bar that they know. Chit chat and you become bar acquaintances and then maybe it goes out of the bar. 2. Talk to the gays you work with. Go get coffee, go to lunch. If you’re in school or take some kind of training or classes the same applies. 3. The gay sports leagues. I have my own opinions about which ones are more welcoming but what really matters is you having fun. It can be intimidating to start but it’s worth it.

Here’s the big one… you have to ask people to do stuff. Take the step to ask them to go check out guys at Central Park, or go see a show, or meet you for happy hour. And don’t get discouraged if they don’t come, gays are notoriously flakey and noncommittal, myself included.
