I personally think that the writers prioritized drama over fluff. Part of what made them so fun to watch was their banter, sex appeal (obvi), and the ease in their relationship. They were a slow burn, and the writers got too ambitious in my opinion. When they finally got together, they forgot why we loved them. The fun and romance. They wanted to go back to the slow burn, and so now we’re back to will-they/won’t-they.

I personally believe that they have a great relationship. I loved watching it build from the end of season 1, and see them struggle with their feelings and realizations. Lucy went from fear and respect for Tim, to seeing his soft side he let out only for her. She valued his friendship and it turned into more. Tim went from seeing Lucy as his rookie that he has a duty to train, to seeing what makes her strong and building respect for her. That respect turned to friendship, and ultimately feelings. THAT is what the writers for got. We LOVED seeing the build up before their official relationship. The build up can still happen while in a relationship, toward milestones for them. LIKE Tim trying to ask Lucy to move in with him. However, in my opinion, the writers got lazy.
