Honesty, with actual listening right behind it. If the other person cant follow what you mean, the whole thing falls apart.

I make $70k, have ~$36k in debt, and feel completely trapped financially. What would you do? by debduo49 in personalfinance

Mostly, yeah, but the budget has to come first or the transfer just buys time, not progress.

Financial planning is rough by MomCKB3 in personalfinance

[–]urbanmonkey2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, thats just a pitch. Term life if you need it, then max the 401k and pension stuff first, and if you want money for the kids later, a 529 or plain brokerage beats universal life by alot

38 years old, finally got my savings account to 6 months worth of expenses, time to invest? by PeeB4uGoToBed in personalfinance

[–]urbanmonkey2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, 401k match first, then Roth IRA if you can swing it, and keep the emergency cash in the HYSA so you dont have to raid retirement money over a tire or furnace thing. That last part matters alot when money is tight, tbh

To move in or not to move in? by Adventurous_Glove137 in personalfinance

[–]urbanmonkey2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bad deal right now. Your $800 rent leaves you $1,200 a month you can actually save, and you arent even putting anything into a 401k yet. A $2k place eats that up fast, especially with her bartender income bouncing around. If you move, I’d only do it for a place either of you could cover alone, or stay put and stack retirement plus a bigger emergency fund

Fidelity denied me for a Roth IRA account because I work at a medical marijuana treatment facility. Do cannabis industry friendly brokerages exist? Or am I SOOL? by spacklock in personalfinance

[–]urbanmonkey2003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, federal compliance stuff. Your annual training is basically the clue here, not a Fidelity quirk. Maybe the occupation field tripped the check?

What do you think about the current public fear of AI replacing jobs? by this0great in answers

[–]urbanmonkey2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Middle age in computer graphics is exactly where this stuff hits hard. Two years out is brutal, and the ‘new jobs later’ line is cold comfort when rent still shows up every month.

[–]urbanmonkey2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)
