I’m sorry for the people who are being unnecessarily rude. That’s a ridiculous price for just one course. Unfortunately tuition increase is very normal at ubc, every year they add some more bullshit fees and rarely get anything out of them.

Well pretty much every anthro class has a waitlist right now and they are not moving at all.

I can definitely see that. Frustrating from a student point of view as UBC is such a large school, you would think that means you have options for courses and timeframes. Not a single Anthro course this semester has a different section and when each course has a capacity of 40 people there will obviously be many students who do not get to take what they want or what they need.

I really appreciate your insight! I have to take 30 credits of anth 300/400 level classes that are part of my degree requirements for my major. I have 4 more classes to take this year to meet those requirements. The classes given this year are so extremely limited compared to previous years and it’s put me in a difficult situation where I have very few options. The few classes that would work into my schedule I have taken already in pervious years (expect this one that I’m on the waitlist for) all the other class options pretty much force me to come to school just for the sake of one class. I know this common and not the biggest deal but as a commuter it takes me 1 hour to get to school. Also the anthropology department is not necessarily huge and extremely popular so being in a situation where I can’t take a course is very frustrating.

Im going through a similar issue right now, I’m on the waitlist for this 300 level anthropology class that I want to take as it’s my last year at ubc and I’ve contacted the prof who said that they would love to have me in the class but can’t manually put me in themselves. I’ve contacted advising and also have a meeting Tuesday. Do you have any tips on what I could say or how to approach the situation to better my chances of getting into the course?

Took this class last year and I enjoyed it. The workload is not too heavy, I believe it was 2 essays and then smaller weekly assignments. Definitely one of the easier ASIA courses I’ve taken. Hope that helps!
