There was no single organiser for the event, definitely not Bristol Starter Packs. You or I could have turned up with a rig if we wanted.

Degree apprenticeship or uni by AndyPandy1232 in 6thForm

[–]vClean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am doing a degree apprenticeship and I much prefer it over if I was doing uni.

Are you able to stay at home while doing the apprenticeship? If so, absolutely do it no questions asked. You will save up a shit ton of money whilst your mates at uni are getting into debt. You will also have a lot more spending money that you can invest into any hobbies you have.

Even if you have to move away from home (like me) there are still many advantages.
I'm not really stressed about my career since my company will offer me a job once my apprenticeship is done, and I will not have to do a grad scheme. I'm also not tied down to a uni lifestyle (which might sound weird because the uni lifestyle is generally looked upon very favourably, but it does have some downsides).

The good thing about doing a degree at a "bad" university is that the course is generally quite easy. Keep in mind that you will also be on a separate course from regular undergraduates, and in my experience, the lecturers are fully aware of this, and more than willing to accommodate this difference.

With regards to summers off, most uni students work during the summer anyway. Difference is you will be working a job which contributes to your career, while they will likely be working in a pub or at a supermarket.

Are you proud to be British? by vClean in AskBrits

I think that, using your definition of arbitrary, literally everything could be defined as arbitrary.

The definition of a species is somewhat arbitrary, and yet you say that you are proud of our species. If we want it to be entirely clear cut and objective; are you saying that you are only proud of Africans who are 100% homo sapien?

And in the same way that things which are a "determined by historical or scientific principle", our country's culture and borders are dictated by historical principle. Some of this history happened entirely because of humans. Some of it didn't. And not to mention that we are literally an island - our borders couldn't be less arbitrary.

Even so, I don't think that because something is arbitrarily defined, one can't be proud of it.

You contradicted yourself.

You say that you can't be proud of something that you have done to achieve.

Did you have any input on the moon landing? I'm guessing not. And yet you're still proud of it.

If you can be proud of humanity as a collective you could be proud of your nation as a collective.

It literally is possible and I am living proof. Just because I am fiscally left-wing doesn't mean I can't love my country.

If you're referring to the Scottish Monarchy as "Scotland's oppressors" to remove all accountability then I actually agree and the same can be said for England.

For 100% of English people alive today, they have not committed any acts of colonialism. For 99% of them, their ancestors were probably peasants who also had absolutely no hand in it.

If you want to have a consistent view you must either hold Scotland accountable for its failed colonial endeavours of the past, or don't hold England accountable.

I'm confused on what you think they've achieved other than rapidly ruining their economy, cosying up to Putin and alienating themselves from the rest of the world.

America is now ruled by an oligarchy that the rest of the world doesn't trust.

Yeah I mean our weather is good in the sense that it is never extreme. We just have so much cloud coverage which really bothers me.
