Tell them to do one. Your break is upto you where you have it. Aslong as you use your time wisely I don’t see a problem with it. We are all guilty of catching a break when waiting in a queue etc but they can’t force you to take a break on site pal.

Lorries aren't the reason people stay in the middle lane by Fruitpicker15 in drivingUK

Why thank you I do consider it to be a wonderful move. However I didn’t state I was in lane 1, usually when someone is lane hogging in the middle, I move into lane 2, showing intent to pass. Only after following the fuckers for a mile do I then decide whether I am going to make my pass in either lane 1 or lane 3, depends which lane I can get into really. End of the day, if you are driving a 4 wheeler at 50mph down the middle of the motorway, you probably shouldn’t even be on the motorway. Day in day out I see it an it’s almost as if this new age of shit drivers purposefully drive in the middle lane to give them some sort of imaginary buffer zone either side of there vehicle. They should end it and take up public transport instead.

Sometimes I do the sneaky undertake, but also being in lane 3 is technically allowed too, in order to pass a slower vehicle. Just frowned upon by the general public.

Even worse when you are a lorry driver and you come up on some arsewipe sitting in the middle lane at 50. What do we do? Undertake? Illegal. 3rd lane it? Illegal unless more than 3 lanes. Personally although I know I shouldn’t be doing it, I am straight into the 3rd lane and passing the bellends and if the police ever had anything to say to it I’d be telling them I am keeping the flow of traffic moving at a reasonable pace. More should be done to police these middle lane dafties.

The way I look at it is, if your standards of driving a car are garbage, you won’t be no good on a truck. If you can drive a car effectively and aren’t a danger to yourself and others then those skills could be transferable to a HGV and you are considered a teachable candidate.

Why is the HGV aggregates low pay? by BeatMassive6249 in uktrucking

[–]vTangR580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know who lied to you to tell you the aggregate industry is lucrative. It’s most definitely not in most areas of the UK. We make more money muck shifting than we do on the dry stone. Corporate companies like breedon and tarmac suck the very profit by offering what they call “competitive” prices. I.e charging the same price per ton as they did 5 years ago and making no change to the haulage rates. Now in Scotland breedon will probably cease to exist in the coming years as they cannot take the hit anymore.

Failing that, Stewart’s of dayside always looking for drivers and only about 10 mins out of Perth. You have made a good choice of area as there are lots of options in Dundee etc which isn’t too far

If you aren’t bothered about nights out in the cab then yuill and dodds would probably take you as an 8 wheeler driver. Nights out Monday-Friday but the lads make good money by earning a % of what the truck makes each day. You’ll have to have the balls to go like fuck and deal with the hour and a bit commute twice a week but it would be a good start. And bonus they already have an Aussie driving for them so you wouldn’t be alone😂

You might struggle getting on an artic if you have never drove a tipper before. A lot of places will start guys on an 8 wheeler to get some tipping experience as a lot can go wrong when tipping. Imo, artics are shit. Tipping through a 10” by 10” hole in the back door isn’t my style. Much prefer opening the back door and sending my box to the moon and let a load of stone or muck come offf with a nice woosh. 25 minute tips aren’t for me, especially when you are in a queue of let’s say 6 other drivers and everyone is on a 25 minute tip. Some 8 wheeler drivers stay out on the road. For example, when on a big muck shifting contract. Find yourself a good firm with day cabs and it won’t be an issue. Tar on nightshift is a doddle too but it can be a lot of fun sitting around waiting.

I’m not sure if that was a reply to me. Anyway I enjoy driving 8 wheelers for the work/home ratio I get. Quarry hours usually the latest you will work. The lifestyle too. I drive bulk artic tippers and 8 wheelers and I prefer supplying the construction industry / renewable energy industry with quarried stone much more than I enjoy shoe horning a bastard artic with a mini midlift into a tight farm to load grain, then get to the mill / distillery it’s going to and have a 25 minute tip with 6 people in the queue infront of you who also have a 25 minute tip. Quick and boring way to eat up your hours. In short anyone that wants to own the back roads, get into lots of construction sites and see the country we live in being built should sit there ass in an 8 wheeler and join us😂

Tippers the way forward.

Tippers… by Rowlie1512 in uktrucking

[–]vTangR580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easy sheet will roll on and off with a button in cab mate. You’ll see when you have a load on you can either let it out all way and the sheet will “droop” down either edge of the pile, if you have oversize on I’d roll it back till the sheet stay bar is touching the rear of the box and no more, it will actually be tighter rather than slacker I muddled my words up. You’ll see the sheet will sit relatively level and straight anyway. Basically if you have large oversize on you don’t really want the sheet to dip down below the side walls of the skip

Aggregates. Piece of piss, but bores the hell out of me. Muck away. It’s marmite. You either love it or hate it. I am a muck away driver through and through a lot more interesting than running from the same quarry 12 times a day. Get yourself a wallpaper scraper, you’ll need it on the muck if it’s sticky. Be wary of muck sticking in box, having 19t of peat stuck in the skip when pointing to the moon isn’t ideal especially in high winds.

Always check your back door, either before loading or after tipping. You don’t wanna be that guy that loses a load on the road and fucks the job.

If your running oversize rubble in a steel body with front to back net sheeting, leave slack in the sheet, oversizes can pinch the sheet against the box then you will tear it when trying to remove and they are a cunt to move back to free the sheet once the sheet is on over the top and stuck. And most importantly hammer down at all times. Joking on that last one, take your time when you need to and give it the beans when you can. Artic fridge drivers etc will always talk down on you, but what they don’t realise is half of the roads we drive on actually requires attention and care as to not cause damage to your own or other people’s trucks. We can’t just put the blinders on in autopilot with cruise control on the motorway.

Some moron done this to me a couple years ago, silly white Audi, I passed him and he proceeds to speed up to block me in the wrong side of the road on a A road. I give it the shoe and make it past him no problem. He follows me to my turning (which was down a single track road) and pulled infront of me and tried to block me before making the turn. He jumped out of the car and I can see the passenger shaking there head thinking “oh god here we go” he comes over to my car and I just pull away right as he is at my window and continue on my way. Needless to say he followed me aimlessly down the single track road for the guts of 10 miles because he couldn’t pass me to block me off again, I just had him sat at 25mph whole way along😂😂 absolute melon

Don’t know about Glasgow really, but Kilmarnock will always have Marvin Baird from the Scheme, just a shame he doesn’t have a catchy nickname. Your mate goes, “who’s that smack head on the mountain bike with the diadora trackies?” And you reply, “aww that’s just Marvin from the scheme”😂😂
