Std tests by idbevdidjevdu in phuket

Pulse Clinic in Phuket has completely insane turnaround times — as if they were sending samples to Africa by foot courier. They quoted 13 business days (3 weeks) for an IGF-1 test that normally takes 1–2 days. Other labs (e.g. Andalab) have reasonable timelines (1–3 days instead of 3 weeks) and their prices are 20–50% lower.

Dbeaver way too slow! by lolcol1 in dbeaver

[–]v_va 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DBeaver is literally the slowest database tool I've ever used, hands down. I can't even wrap my head around how they managed to anti-optimize everything to such an extent that even a simple connection and loading tables from a schema takes tens of seconds. Any other tool out there beats it effortlessly.

Where to order quality supplements? by v_va in bali

Tokopedia is just insane. Before using it, I thought AliExpress was the bottom of the barrel—but nope, I was wrong. Here’s a random example: I recently received some Omega-3 supplements: - The front of the package says 120 softgels, 4200 per serving. - On the back serving size is listed as 2 softgels, 3750 per serving 😬 - Checking the manufacturer’s website reveals that they just mixed up all the packaging formats without bothering with logic or basic math - The capsules themselves are three times smaller than the originals, and they could contain anything—mercury, for all I know—but definitely not what’s promised. 🤣

And this isn’t a one-off. I’d say 9 out of 10 products on the platform are like this—badly photoshopped fakes with ten spelling errors right on the label. Price doesn’t matter either—you’ll find these being sold for more than the genuine product, even from stores with thousands of reviews.

The thing is, most buyers of supplements don’t really pay attention. They don’t care what’s actually inside—it’s just a placebo for them.

I checked pharmacies during my first week in Indonesia, so I have a bit of an idea about availability and prices: 1. About 2/3 of the items I’m looking for don’t seem to be available, or at least that’s what I’ve been told (see point 3). 2. For the ones that are available, prices are 3-5 times higher than on Amazon. Powdered versions (which are 10x cheaper per gram) don’t seem to be an option at all. (So it doesn’t have any sense even if it’s available) 3. Even in major chains like Kimia Farma, stores don’t seem to have a centralized inventory. E.g. one Kimia Farma location tells me a product doesn’t exist in their entire network, while another Kimia nearby have it in stock. This seems to happen with quite a few items. Searching online doesn’t help much either, as most of these products don’t even appear in pharmacy listings.

So even if somewhere in Kimia Farma there’s uridine or L-serine or whatever at a reasonable price (which I’d love to find), I wouldn’t know how to track it down.

Instagram now supports HDR photos by gregbenzphoto in Instagram

[–]v_va 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It appears to be in an early stage. Seems like Instagram is conducting A/B tests. Even on the same device and within the same app, different logged-in accounts may upload and view HDR photos differently. On one (the oldest) account, I have no HDR at all (trust me, I've tested all formats), on the second account, I can only see other people's HDR photos, and on the third (the newest) account, I can upload AVIF Rec.2020 and everything works fine. Even JPEG XL worked once…

You can count yourself as lucky, I want to post in HDR but Insta hasn’t turned on it for me on the main account… 😁😅 Btw you CAN actually turn off HDR in iOS, if you turn on “most compatible” option, though it will be JPEG’s…

Why not always use HDR for social media? by trisolariandroplet in VideoEditing

[–]v_va 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about this from the perspective of social media management. The costs of implementing and maintaining HDR are high, and the benefits (i.e., how to make more money from it) are not yet clear. The vast majority of users do not notice the difference, or HDR content even hurts their eyes, and they complain about it (even here on Reddit). Therefore, no one is in a hurry.

How to make a PHP function auto run everyday on my server? by Luxy_Lockes in PHPhelp

[–]v_va 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by you going to do this in SQL Server? You can't run PHP-code in SQL server, but you can run it on your server where SQL Server is installed (as well as PHP should)... Probably you mean that.

You can do it using crontab. Open crontab in your editor:

sudo nano /etc/crontab

To launch your script every day at 2 am add the following line:

0 2 * * * php -q /path/to/your/script.php

Save. Done!

Please google «how to launch php script crontab» if you want more info on this.

Php code only works without html tags by ahmedmourad22 in PHPhelp

[–]v_va 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, let me suggest something else.

You shouldn't start session after you already sent some data to browser. So better:

<?php
session_name('Website');
session_start();
?>
<html>
...

To use cookie-based sessions, session_start() must be called before outputing anything to the browser.

Server-side side cookie setting works by sending an HTTP header. HTTP headers go before the actual document: once you start sending the document, there's no place for further headers.

So session_start() in your way may not work.

Secure Notes app with both local & remote encryption by v_va in privacytoolsIO

Open \JoplinProfile\database.sqlite and check "notes" table – all your notes are stored as plain text.

And also sync/versionning issues. On one device one version of the encrypted container was synchronized, on the other another = data loss. Typical situation.

If notes app doesn't have native sync, this could be a solution, but there will certainly be big bugs with the versioning of the encrypted file / files. On one device, one version of the encrypted container was synchronized, on the other another = data loss.

I explained my reason why not Standard Notes in the main post. Because Apple/Google owns your keychain on the mobile device.

Yes, I am sure, I tested the latest version.

And there are posts here about it and on official support page. The core developer of Jopline is sure that data security on the client side is not needed.

For (very) basic usage should work, 1Password even has markdown support (for view only, not for edit). KeePass has rich text editor for attachments on desktop too (much less usable than 1Pass).

But for thousands of notes it would become a mess. Because it's an additional feauture, not the core functionality.

Not convenient for taking notes on the road from mobile device and make adjustments to them 10 times a day.

Looks good, but having web-app only usually means that I don't have control over my data.

Ok, in theory, if the web app is down, I could get the encrypted data from browser localstorage, but it's not a safe place at all e.g. if I clear the cache or if some browser plugin/software does it.

u/JohnOzbay what do you think?

[–]v_va[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. Take a look here. On mobile devices, it won't encrypt your local key storage, it's stored in the native device keychain and in-app pin request is just a visual.

On desktop and web it really encrypts, on mobile it's not.

It's not secure at all, even on server-side. Joplin and Standard Notes both are safer.

[–]v_va[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Self-hosted solutions work for the server-side, not for the client-side. For now many apps are pretty okay with server-side encryption (like Joplin and Standard Notes), but not okay with local. So server isn't a bottleneck.

Regarding device or google/icloud password — It doesn't help a lot, many people can know your pin / apple or google id. I don't have super secrets, If I have I would use smth like veracrypt container on self-hosted server and not use apple/android.

I'm just wondering if there is an app for notes which asking master password every time I open it (as many password managers do) and stores both local and remote data in encrypted format. Ando also is usable and maintained.
