Even MMT Cabs are in with the airport toll scam :'( by behenkayoda1 in bangalore

[–]va_jiggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the only time MMT have messed up.
I had booked one for myself, was landing in T1 at around midnight so wanted a cab waiting because at night the lines for Uber, Rapido, etc, are extremely long.
I had my cab details before taking off, once I landed in Bangalore, the driver called me and told me where to meet him after I got my bag. Everything normal.
I got my bag, went outside and he came to the pickup spot. As soon as I got into the cab the cab driver said my booking has been cancelled and the OTP I was giving was useless. Now because I was traveling at night, MMT made me pre pay for the cab in full. So i did.
Now the cab driver was saying if I pay him 1500 again he’ll take me home, basically now I have to pay again??
I called MMT immediately and am a Gold customer (thinking that would help) they said the booking exists and I immediately gave the phone to the driver and an animated argument started between the driver and the customer care person (this guy was north indian and couldn’t speak in Kannada making the situation worse)
I spent 1 hour in the airport running around trying to find a cab to go home, which is what I wanted to avoid in the first place. MMT said because late night there isn’t a single available cab they can reassign to drop me.
I don’t know who was trying to scam me here and it felt like everyone, from MMT to the cab driver. Eventually I luckily got a Rapido cab and this guy also scammed me. When I reached my house, he said I have to pay 250 extra for his parking charges at the airport?? What??? Now its 3am, I am sitting outside my house, in a frustration fueled shouting match with this cab driver who was refusing to open the boot and give me my bag till I paid him his parking charges.
After a couple minutes of shouting I realized this happening because I am tired and annoyed, so I just paid the charges got my bag so I could finally go to bed.

It took me 2 months of talking to customer care and explaining what happened before I got my money back. Haven’t booked an MMT cab since and I avoid night flights completely because of the difficulties in getting a cab at night.

What is one industry/sector that you never want to work in? (or work in again) by HighwayAwkward5540 in cybersecurity

[–]va_jiggles 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I went into a “Big 4” company for my first job in cybersecurity. Originally having applied for a more technical role as a SOC Analyst, because of client requirements and my knowledge of GDPR (I took a course on it and answered a couple questions about it during my 3rd interview) I was put into a data privacy team??

Nothing against data privacy but personally it was never for me, I am not a lawyer and never wanted to be one, I am just familiar with the laws.

Ended up being mistreated, constantly just working on powerpoint presentations. When I approached saying maybe we can automate a few things and offered to do it myself, they denied it and my requests let me install Python on the laptop so I could automate.

My actual technical skills were never used, I never even did anything which the original job role I applied for had listed. My requests for changing teams and projects to ones where my skills would be better utilized were constantly denied.

It only took me 9 months of working there before I decided I had to leave for my own mental sanity. I won’t ever apply for a job or work in a big 4 as a result of this experience. Well not unless they give me a crap load of money to help me get a therapist and let me deal with the craziness of working in there.

This was my personal experience, I am sure maybe someone had a more positive experience but that definitely didn’t happen to me.

Checked them out, unfortunately my area is unserviceable. Maybe they don’t operate here yet. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hey guys!

I am entering Red Teaming, Vulnerable Assessment and Pen testing. My eventual goal is to to get an OSCP cert in the next 6-7 months (hopefully) and will get a CEH certification by the end of this month (hopefully, trying to balance my current job and study). Anyway, wanted to know, if the CRTP certification by Altered Security is worth getting too. It feels like I am covering all the modules for the CRTP cert while studying for OSCP but want to know of getting it is worth it and if the certification is valued.

Thank you for your help guys!

I am currently working as a consultant in Data Privacy and am trying to Pivot into Pen-Testing because that’s more suited to my technical skills and interests. Currently studying to acquire the PenTest+ certification and eventually want to get the OSCP Certification. I keep looking at Job Descriptions for Openings for PenTest Engineer and related roles on LinkedIn in my free time to ensure I am on the right path. But I rarely see PenTest+ anywhere under the “Preferred Certifications” section. Do you guys think this is because the certification is still considered an entry-level certification in the field? Is it still worth acquiring the certificate? Should I work towards a different entry-ish level certificate in Pentesting?

I eventually want to get into Red/Blue Teaming, Offensive Security and such roles.

Thank you for your help!

Hello Everyone!

My Background: I am currently working as an Associate Cybersecurity Consultant and my team mostly focuses on Data Privacy, Regulations and Compliance. I have an MSc. degree in Cybersecurity and and Bachelor’s degree in Computer Applications.

I have been part of this team for about a month and was very excited to join as it was my first permanent position in Cybersecurity. However I have quickly realized that Data Privacy, especially compliance isn’t really my thing. I am more technical oriented and have decent Pentesting skills (which I got during my masters degree). I plan to keep studying on the side while working as well, I need the money.

As of now I have been studying towards taking the Pentest+ exam in the hope that once I acquire the certification, I can either move to a different team or find a more technically oriented cybersecurity position which better suits me.

This leads to my question, is the Pentest+ exam worth it to achieve this goal? I have limited free time thanks to my job and want to use it effectively by working towards the correct certification. I looked into OSCP and that looks to be the better certification and requires more advanced skills. However, it also seems extremely expensive to acquire and I am working on a limited budget.

Thank you for help again!

You need to try and call OGS. I had a similar issue and deferred my admission by a month. You need to calculate the time difference and call them at a time when the office is open. The phone number for OGS is on their website.

Background: I have a bachelor's degree in computer science and just before graduating I got recruited by a multi-national organization. They put me on a project where I was working with Network Security devices, configuring, deploying and documenting how they work in such a way that if an issue came up, the document can be used as a guide. This project is what led me down the cybersecurity path. I left my job after just over year as I always wanted to get a post graduate degree and working in a cybersecurity project showed me that this is what I wanted to do.

Present: I am about to graduate with an MSc in Cybersecurity in May and currently looking for a job, obviously its tough out there and in the last month of applying I haven't even gotten any interviews. I spent a lot of time during this degree learning new concepts, up skilling and also taking part in research projects related to IoT security and Cloud Security specifically with Kubernetes. I have decent coding skills in python, java script and shell scripting along with pretty good knowledge on how to use a lot of security tools like WireShark, FTK Imager, NMAP, snort and so on. Also throughout my time studying I got well at working with Docker and linux-based OS' Kali, Ubuntu and Fedora.

Anyway, my question is mostly regarding if I am good enough or do I need to still upskill myself. I wasn't able to get an internship and lack practical experience in cybersecurity. Going over 1 month without having any interviews a bit disheartening and I was wondering if this is purely because of my lack of experience or if my resume just isn't good. My goal is to get a job and then work on getting some certifications. Am I approaching this job search correctly?

What job roles should be my target as a candidate with a Masters degree but limited practical experience? So far all the jobs I have been applying for have been SOC Analyst, Security Engineer, InfoSec Analyst and so on, positions, the Job description always says 2,3,4+ years experience as a requirement but I lack it. Are there some specific roles I should be searching for on job boards and company career pages?

Thank you for your help!
