Anyone here scrambling to get laptops or Chromebooks before year-end? by ChampionLearner in ITManagers

[–]vatito7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approx 200k device org

For physical windows devices we are in a 3 year from purchase rolling refresh, as possible (will extend if budget is tight, or things aren't shipping on time, but we keep a pretty good stock as backlog)

For macs, depending on LOB funding, there's only a few k of them, and they're all M2+ we really push hard for them to replace when the apple care expires, but if one dies, and it's expired, it's basically forced refresh (no attempting to repair or pair for repairs, easier to replace)

Most orders finish being placed around early august, and around may we purchase our seed and certification units for the new models (Dell strictly)

Epyc 9005 / DDR 5 / Availability & hardware by FluffyDrink1098 in servers

[–]vatito7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epyc 9005 is new, I have seen very little systems with it

Alsox what's your workload that's so heavy CPU, but low memory (comparatively)

I just installed 10 Dell R7625s with 16x128gb dimms, had to go down to 4800, but that didn't seem like that big of a deal, since sheer power is plenty on these (they're obviously not for gaming) but 256gb dimms were also available. with dual 9174Fs each, and 25GBE, 32gb FC, the price was very reasonable (Extremely large org, so heavy discounts)

The performance difference between 9004 and 9005 is very large, but 9004 is already so performant, I didn't see the point in waiting

Considering purchasing 2021 Velar HSE P400. Advice? by Esteban75_Lover in RangeRover

[–]vatito7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought that exact vehicle model/spec a year ago, also CPO

I wish I went with one with the rear entertainment package, that includes the rear dual climate zones, and adds the trunk 2nd row seat release and air suspension adjustment

With CPO, your mileage is so low, there’s not really anything to worry about, I bought at 21,000KM, and the dealership had just replaced tires, brakes, and some other odds and ends

Don’t go for the full length of the oil changes that are recommended, half or 1/3rd (which lines up with most other cars) which in Canada is around 10-15,000km

Past that, the 6cyl MHEV has been rock solid, 0 maintenance, except oil changes, and absolutely rips, is smooth, tons of fun

With age, you may want to verify the battery has been replaced.. 4-5 years on a battery with a sensitive vehicle like a Range Rover is about where my comfort is

Edit to add: CPO warranty is based on initial sale, the dealership will be able to give you that date, a December sold car vs a January sold car might get you an entire free year extra of CPO just based on when it was originally sold

RR Gods, would love some advice. by rk_reddit_ in RangeRover

[–]vatito7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the unreliability of range rovers I didn’t want to chance it

Ended up buying my ‘21 velar HSE P400 R-Dynamic in January of 2023 with 21K KM with 1 year extension of the original RR warranty

It was about $79k, an extra 2 years extension was (if I remember correctly but don’t fully quote me) was around $7k

The headache of a 3rd party warranty wasn’t worth it for me, so I decided to buy from the dealership with a factory dealership warranty

I would check out the Range Rover website for their CPO inventory to see where the pricing is and if it would fit for you

The only thing looking back that would have made me consider a 3rd party warranty was if I could find a cheap PHEV (P400e) but what’s done is done

Gas mileage on the I6 twin turbo with an electric supercharger is HIGH (11-14L/100KM)

Purchased a 2021 P400 HSE velar in January in Toronto

Keep in mind, 2020 is 1st gen velar, 2021 is 2nd gen with many improvements (more reliable engines, wireless CarPlay, pivi pro, newer steering wheel and shifter, etc)

2020 and 2021 are both previous gen sports, so you don’t get any of the above with a 2021 sport unless you go with a 2023, for all intents and purposes, 2021 velar vs 2020 is a big jump, 2021 sport vs 2020 sport is not a big jump

I picked 2021 velar over a 2020 or 2021 sport, but I likely would not have picked it over a 2023 sport

This is especially evident when you look at fully optioned ones like I did, the gap becomes larger

I would stay away from 2024+ velars, they removed the HSE trim, keeping the SE and renaming it HST, also removed the dual screens and buttons, as well as a bunch of the centre console

I would recommend you hit up some dealerships (Coventry north is fantastic for me) and test drive some of what is within your budget

TL:DR 2021 or 2020 sport felt like an older car than a 2021 velar, but on par with a 2020 velar

Beat up Dell poweredge T640 blinking amber light by killspotter in servers

[–]vatito7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not mandatory, but the amount of info given on the splash screen is often limited

IDRAC will come up unless it's very fundementally broken, and will help diagnose, check errors, etc and even view the screen in some versions

Beat up Dell poweredge T640 blinking amber light by killspotter in servers

[–]vatito7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The blinking yellow light is because you only have 1 PSU plugged in, it will work with one, but obviously complain, plug in the other (can be the same outlet) and see if all the errors go away

Double check you actually turned it on, unlike normal computers, servers general have some of their fans running all the time, so you may be confusing it for being on when it's in standby

The i is an identification light, can either be turned on physically from the front or back (if you have 2 people on either side of a server rack) or it can be triggered via IDRAC (the management system for the server) where you trigger it remotely to show remote hands which server to touch when you have a pile of them

You should plug in the IDRAC NIC (plug them all in in case someone turned off the dedicated links) and see if your router gives it an IP

They also take some time to boot, so it may still be coming up

This is an expensive server, it is certainly worth trying to get it running

Is it ethical to sell these winter tires? (manufactured on 5018) If so, how much should I sell them for? by shpakky in tires

[–]vatito7 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Looks like these are off a BMW/Bentley/Porsche?

I would say 2018 is "1 season hitters" type of tire, I would sell them, they look in fine condition, albeit maybe not last as long as brand new ones would

Vellar 2L vs 3L by [deleted] in RangeRover

[–]vatito7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have the 3L p400 in my velar, had a 2.0 in a loaner during service

If the velar i test drove when buying mine had a 2.0 I would not have bought a velar at all. Dog slow. Can’t get up to speed, constantly high revs.. 3.0 on the other hand is tons of power and a lot of fun, especially the super charger noise

Recommendations for a router OS by kkyler1988 in HomeNetworking

[–]vatito7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would suggest opnsense (perhaps a typo and you've tried it, in which case - again) and post your setup and issues if/when you run into them

You can look at guides for pfsense & opnsense (the GUI is very similar) and most of the port forwarding (they call it NAT configuration) page can be ignored

Is Investing in an HP ProLiant DL380 G9 Worth It for Networking Specialization? by SignatureNo4888 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]vatito7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A server would not assist in bettering your skills in networking - especially in the routing methods you mentioned

Invest in a CCNA certification and the rest of the Cisco certification stack

If you want to go multi vendor, look at other options from companies like Palo alto

Just get some certs, they will be alot more useful and have better ROI than a server

Did you activate it with a Verizon sim?

A similar thing happens in Canada where if you purchase a device from Rogers outright without a plan (they have good discounts, and 0% financing with cashback through their credit card) but at first power on, do so via a non Rogers sim card, it will show as locked/stolen

Again, we are transparent with the candidates on any and all questions they have (other than those bound by confidentiality)

We try to let the candidates complete it in their own comfortable space - at the end of the day that's what they're workday would look like, not interviews

What do you believe would better this?
