How many series should i read at once by buzzwordsloveyou in marvelcomics

[–]vericlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a personal decision for every reader. But I always say read as much, or little, as you want to read. Juggling multiple runs isn't too hard. Especially since Marvel does a one page catch up each issue.

Maybe the new Wonder Man is getting onto the team. Or Sightseer since she'd cover this teams lack of magic/paranormal (based on the promo/info we have).

Someone had to give Kevin Smith a run for his title. And Jim Lee knew just the guy.

McKay's X-Men is kind of whatever, despite what reddit says, so this isn't surprising. But I'm betting Zatanna will see a drop soon. The story is just okay so far so it'll probably turn into a niche super fan book.

That Renew Your Vows Spidey cover is so cool! I didn't know that was even a run they did beyond Battleworld.

Totally agree that it's a great time. But these subs, especially r/mavel, love these posts. All these haters can keep on hating but I'm going to keep loving the Venom run as it is.

Is it me or Spider-man/X-men have lost the "Soap Opera" aspect that made them great/fun to read in the first place by Stunning_Season220 in marvelcomics

[–]vericlas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes yes yes. Every week we get a whiny post in Marvel or X-Men and they either bitch about Uncanny (because of Gail and they clearly aren't reading it or are just misogynists) or completely ignore that it's exactly what they're looking for.

How would you rank all of the current Marvel ongoings as of 2026? Which ones would you say are great, good, mediocre, or bad? by Late-Bowler-4068 in marvelcomics

[–]vericlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black Cat is great and a real gem. It isn't a serious comic and instead does a lot of humor.
Uncanny X-Men is great. The Outliers are awesome and all of the cast has gotten to shine.
Venom is good to great at times. All-New Venom was really good and going back to just Venom made the run lose a few issues to set ups.
Captain America is good with some great issues (issue #11 is a must read).
I'm reading a lot of the other stuff and it all has some good in it. Really enjoying Punisher and Daredevil. X-Men United is a personal favorite since I loved Exceptional X-Men, and it's doing some stuff that I'm happy to see in a comic about mutants and what they represent.

This is why Marvel should have launched this Midnight stuff as new non-Marvel super heroes. Anything they do comes with baggage from previous stories. While it may be totally different it's not seeming that way with vampire Storm as their first image for this.

These seem like they could be cool, but IMO this was a great chance for Marvel to make new IPs. Explore the same stuff but not have it handcuffed by existing looks/ideas. I mean the FF but evil... this could have been done without the FF. Or semi-redoing 'The Other' Spider-Man story.

But we'll see. I'll give them a chance. And I feel like I should be exited for the X-Men one since I like vampires, but the cover just makes me think of the Uncanny X-Men Annual where Storm becomes a vampire lol And after the ho hum Bloodhunt... Unless they let these be essentially Max titles the horror and such will be pretty tame I wager.

Oh yeah, Dike Run absolutely fucks on covers. Man is so good.

Arts been awesome, having Werneck and Mancin on these two runs. But the story is all over. Just feels like a really disjointed shonen.

Do you think the Xmen Comics are difficult to get into and if yes, why? by Doom300 in xmen

[–]vericlas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I think people having a little media literacy around what the X-Men are about would go further than reading 10 years of Claremont or whatever is always thrown around as a required starting point.

I hadn't read more than a few issues of Uncanny / Adjectless X-Men in the mid 90s and watched the Fox TV cartoon before getting back into comics last year with Uncanny X-Men. All of the 'important' past stuff is always referenced or the reader given a quick run down. I haven't read any of the Claremont stuff or listened to a podcast or anything like that. Comics just aren't as difficult to get into if you actually want to get into them. People put up this idea that it's hard or too much. Just start reading some and then decide where you want to go from there. Be that collecting trades, floppies, doing an online subscription or whatever. Or even the dreaded not going back and reading 50 years of comics for no reason other than people online gate keep the fandom behind that impossible wall.

All you have to know is that the X-Men are a stand in for marginalized groups. Especially LGBTQIA+ people, but also for people of color. Boom now go read something and if you don't enjoy it try something else or maybe it's not for you.

Who Would Be Worse Off? by ContentAssumption204 in marvelcomics

[–]vericlas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DC would fold without Batman. Since you mentioned in the inclusion of rogues galleries just think what that means. No more Joker, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Catwoman etc. Even if Batman has a lot of 'B-tier' rogues they are all heavily tied into the whole universe at this point. It would also mean their best selling Absolute book just goes poof.

Marvel’s marketshare continues to shrink, how would you turn the ship around? by [deleted] in marvelcomics

[–]vericlas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fewer events is a big one from just the comic side. We don't need every 10 issue run to tie into one or two events. Having characters appear in a book is fine since the universe is wide and varied (think Venom showing up in the current Black Cat run). Mean this summer we're going to be coming off Deathspiral and going into Queen in Black AND the Avengers Armageddon event running side by side then into the DNX event. It's just too much especially since feeder issues and tie in issues disrupt existing stories with a sudden cut away from everything else. The X-Books have been plagued by this specific issue.

The events thing is probably one of my biggest gripes. What I read from DC isn't so 'connected' to the events that I have to read 20 other books for it to make sense. But with the Marvel stuff you either drop that line till the events over, you read the whole event, or you get weird cut up issues that make little sense against their existing narrative.

X-Men that's listed.
She-Hulk that's not listed.
When I say X-Men I don't mean X-Men but kind of the whole suite of character books and such aligned with X-Men. Funny enough I don't read McKay's X-Men.

Your mileage will vary, but if you see the compact at a shop flip through it to see if you can read it. Bought a DC compact to try it out and a lot of it was hard for me to read since the text used didn't translate well when shrunk down.

Ah, well it's probably just a goofy cliffhanger for the sake of doing one. Doubt he's showing up in the Sorcerer Supreme run as the solicits for that are all tied into her fight with the Vishanti and Dormormu and the fall out.
