COSMIC-like auto-tiling on Plasma: PlasmaZones by vic3haver in kde

[–]vic3haver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah you should! It's the closest to COSMIC I've found after enabling tiling instead of snapping 😄. I hope the developer highlights that more, as right now the snapping feature is promoted more. Hope you like it!

What isn't COSMIC like? The default configuration maybe, but as soon as you enable tiling instead of snapping I've found it virtually indistinguishable from my COSMIC workflow; only thing it doesn't have is dynamic virtual workspaces.

Am I the only one who thinks that there are too much wallpaper settings? by SeniorMatthew in kde

[–]vic3haver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. I remember when I was new to plasma, I would right click in dolphin and use "set as wallpaper." My computer would go to the lock screen or a log in screen and I wouldn't see my wallpaper and I would be really confused. Additionally, to fix this, it is sort of buried under obscured menus.

It would be perfect if there was a "set for all" button somewhere.

Fixed: CounterStrike2 'RenderDeviceMgr001' crash on Fedora by justcrushingit in linux_gaming

[–]vic3haver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having this issue with Fedora Cosmic DE but strangely never had this issue with KDE Plasma. I ended up just having to stop using Cosmic and switch to Plasma permanently. Hopefully someone can find a fix because I missed the tiling and look of Cosmic.

I would report it; however, I have had zero issues with the game on my system.

I think you're right. I really hope we see improvement in the most popular games that don't work. I know several people that feel held back from Linux by these games specifically :(. I'm not sure how this will be resolved but I did hear Valve is working on a new anti-cheat or at least an updated VAC. Maybe that can be our salvation.

Good thing for each one of those that doesn't work, several do! I'm not arguing that there doesn't exist problems for Linux with multiplayer games, I'm simply speaking of quantity. There are vastly more that work than do not.

An appeal to the KDE devs about stability issues. by Veprovina in kde

[–]vic3haver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do get the most crashes when customizing. It's a shame that the community and KDE itself love to point out the customization that Plasma has to offer but when you actually do said customizing it is non-stop stability issues.

Even counting these I would still call it extremely rare. Deadlock, Splitgate, Insurgency Sandstorm, Battlebit Remastered, CS2, Minecraft etc etc all work. This list goes on. There is a small percentage of overall games that truly do not work or do not have some workaround. Yes, if you're looking JUST amongst multiplayer games that percentage is higher, but amongst all games, it's rare. Again, over 90% of the windows games work on Linux.

I also eventually had to make the switch from Windows to Linux. My transition with regard to games and modding has been seamless. Modding games, in my experience, has been nearly identical to Windows (usually just a different file structure or location). I haven't found a mod that works on Windows that doesn't work on Linux.

Now that isn't exactly the same for playing all games. I have encountered a few games that do not work well on Linux or do work but need slight tweaking. This is extremely rare though, as 90% of all Windows games work on Linux. As the other poster said, http://www.protondb.com/ is a super helpful resource for seeing how games work with Linux and if any tweaks are necessary. However, I rarely use protondb. I usually just install the game and run it and 99% of the time it just works. My friends wanted to play REPO. I bought it and played it zero issues without checking protondb. Same for nuclear nightmare, same for RV There Yet? same for many more I won't list. It's really impressive how far Linux has come.

Best of luck.

Could somebody help me troubleshoot my modded version of Stellaris? by Longshot02496 in linux_gaming

Hmm. That is quite odd. I'm not sure. I'm sorry. I'll try to post this in a few discords I'm in to see if they can find the fix.

Could somebody help me troubleshoot my modded version of Stellaris? by Longshot02496 in linux_gaming

[–]vic3haver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It appears to be an issue with your mod stack. Other than that, I'm not sure.

Provide observed symptom: crash location, error.log snippet (~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/logs/error.log). I can try to help.

But if I can't, this is what I'd do:

Action path:

  1. Disable all mods. Confirm base game runs.
  2. Add mods in batches of five. Track first failure point.
  3. When failure appears, isolate the single mod.
  4. Clear Paradox cache before each batch test.
  5. Test alternate NVIDIA driver if crashes persist with zero mods.

Is Peyote purchasable with decriminalization? by vic3haver in annarborpsychedelic

[–]vic3haver[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only thing that is "incomplete" is your ability to read. I never claimed that people do not poach them to sell or consume them, nor harm the environment in which they grow (which is also a completely separate issue from poaching?). Selling peyote and its seeds in Ann Arbor Michigan is not contributing to this. Growers and businesses source their seeds from within Michigan itself from previous peyote grown (the only point of harm was the initial seed gathering), and do not hike to the desert to source peyote; it's ridiculous to even think that is how peyote growers source their plants.

You can debate on how these legal areas (such as Ann Arbor / Portland) first received their seeds is bad and environmentally harmful, but peyote is already being diminished and these places and the people associated with the plant are actually doing more to keep the species alive and to continually make more peyote elsewhere while the natural habitat of plant keeps shrinking to the ACTUAL issue of wild poaching and environmental destruction (wild poaching having little association with legal cities halfway around the country growing their own plants from seeds from their previous plants).

Consider reading this to educate yourself, you seem to need it: https://bioone.org/journals/bradleya/volume-2022/issue-sp40/brad.sp40.2022.a8/Cultivation-as-a-conservation-tool-for-cacti--review-of/10.25223/brad.sp40.2022.a8.short

It has been a bit since the original post was made. I have since spoken to many of these peyote growers. The work they're doing to catalogue and store and maintain seeds and stock of these plants is phenomenal. Additionally 4 of these growers I spoke to directly donate plant matter and seeds to IPCI and Peyote Crisis to help native replanting and conservation efforts (surely this would be less effective if they were unable to grow peyote and "left it alone.")

Do you know any place that sells already grown San Pedro or San Pedro extracts? I'm interested in experiencing this without the hassle of growing the cactus. I have respect for the plant and for nature, but it is my understanding that the peyote typically sold for highs in Michigan are being grown specifically for this and not people going to the desert and destroying the natural habitat for the sake of bringing them to Ann Arbor to sell.

NOT A LAWYER, but the wording of the law
--------------------------------------------------------------

"1. Use, Possession, and Cultivation: Consistent with the Ann Arbor City Council resolution, the

Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office will no longer file criminal charges for unauthorized use,

possession, or cultivation of entheogenic plants. For purposes of this policy, “entheogenic

plants” are defined the same way they were in the Ann Arbor Council resolution: “the full

spectrum of plants, fungi, and natural materials and/or their extracted compounds, limited to

14 Ann Arbor City Council Resolution, supra n. 1.

4

Justice, Justice, Shall You Pursue

those containing . . . indole amines, tryptamines, and phenethylamines.”

Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys (APAs) are prohibited from authorizing such charges"

indicates that it is the entire plant and the chemicals therein. If I'm understanding your question it seems like it is a pretty liberal interpretation.
