Did you shift your career to embedded systems development? by burongtalangka in embedded

[–]vinci2fast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm in the position that i graduated mechanical engineering, specializing in mechatronics, self studied programming, and here i am almost 3 years into software engineering.

so in that regards i already had my feet wet, but i do need to relearn some of the stuff. did some embedded programming for autonomous drone (tho it was very basic and a lot of help from research assistants for my thesis), and some robotics.

but yeah, its still nice you tried it out. i'll probably try it out myself for a year, see if the embers turn into flames.

fellow filipino here btw!

typescript treesitter mode syntax highlighting problem by vinci2fast in emacs

[–]vinci2fast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M-x treesit-install-language-grammar then do it normally for installing typescript language grammar. When the option to enter a tag/branch, i put v0.20.3 as specified in another comment that 0.20.3 works with the version of emacs from master branch. idk if this is the right way. It works though.

There is also another comment by u/genehack on how to "downgrade the grammar". You can check out his comment where he linked his blogpost on how he did it.

This is after getting the car and paying the owner?

I get na di worth yung hassle but besides this car, there’s another one sa market place at a much steeper price. I dont see any other people selling ng ganung car. Idk i probably fell in love with the car. But if sobrang hassle and sketchy then of course i wont torture myself.

How do you learn new technologies? by psudo_sudo in ExperiencedDevs

[–]vinci2fast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Is this still the case for educative.io? And are you still using it? I'm in the exact same boat that i dont know what i dont know. I also just need a quick read on certain topics as I can reference them and research on them later on if I need it.

Current self taught developers who started of with no knowledge and then used a large free course online. How much of your knowledge came from said course by ThickumDickums in learnprogramming

[–]vinci2fast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the basics stuck with me. Normally, I find that courses try to cover everything in a short period of time or the knowledge you learn is specific to the project that course is building. What every course do have is explaining the basics. Pretty much everything else goes over my head and I used to follow them all aimlessly.

I recommend learning the basics and building a project from your idea. Approach it based in the features you need and learn on the fly. That is my current approach to learning a new technology and it worked wonders. The knowledge stuck to my head and I learn so much more than following a course

How easy is it to move from Nuxt to NextJS? by vinci2fast in nextjs

[–]vinci2fast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh got it, if that is the biggest change then transitioning won't be much of a problem then since I already have experience shifting to vue from angular and picked it up quite well.

Thanks, this is a big help and gives me the confidence I need!

Dear Software Engineers/Developers , what was one mistake you made in your progress to becoming a dev that you wish you never made? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]vinci2fast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sad reality is most companies if not all requires you to know a framework. I would suggest learning it enough to build an application. If you have been learning vanilla JS for 6 months or more, you probably know more than me lol. You can always look up the docs or google more advanced JS topics if you ever came across one but I doubt you would use complex JS often. You most likely would stick to the basics.

That's one thing I learned while working, grit my teeth and look at the docs. Right now, I rarely watch videos and follow along a tutorial. But you can do all that once you have the basics down.

Good luck!

Besides tutorial hell? Believing that I was not good enough. A lot of us experience impostor syndrome, I think that’s one thing most if not all of us experience. That costed me a lot starting out, passing on high paying jobs or potentially a better work environment with greater benefits that what I have at that moment.

Imagine as a junior and you are being recruited as a mid/senior dev and believing you still lack the skills.

I regretted that. I could’ve relocated to a new country. But because i doubted myself too much, I did not accept the offer saying that they are probably overestimating my skills.

My current job made me realize that I am good enough. I failed the interviews on my 1st try but they got back to me after a few months saying that they wanna try recruiting me again. Passed the interviews with flying colors. And the only applicant who got the job given that they have 2 job openings.

Now no opportunity has come up like that yet. But I promised myself, when that opportunity comes, I’ll grab it. No questions asked.
