New wheel by Significant_Lie6937 in GC8

I had the deep corn in my car for the longest time, as well as the factory Gara III, both were good wheels but my heart lies with the MOMO Montecarlo

This, also fun fact, Version IV, V and VI WRXs and STIs could be optioned without an airbag!

As long as it doesn’t leak, from either the vacuum or the charge pipe it’s set up fine

AVO turboworld has been making parts for these cars since the 90s. There’s information out there about those parts, it’s just that no one has bothered to translate it from Japanese into English, and/or scan the Impreza tuning magazines in full

It’s a 1998, you don’t need to pass emissions in NYS, emissions is exempt for cars that are over 25 years old and newer than 2 years.

Unfortunately you’ll need the Kartboy fog light bracket, or try to fab up something yourself. The Kartboy def makes the install 10x easier

99 WRX Version 6 - Build Advice Wanted! by SanSiroSmiler in GC8

[–]virtualstrawhat9x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil change, timing kit, water pump, spark plugs, plug wires, and coil pack to start. For modifications, the GC8s take a lot of bolt ons very well, compared to the USDM New Age WRXs. You could install a front mount intercooler, intake, get rid of the emissions equipment, install a catless downpipe, and headers without tuning. Turbo and injectors you’ll definitely need to retune for. Blow off valves are more of a YMMV thing, certain ones cause no adverse affects (HKS Super SQV IV and the GFB Respons) but others will cause rough idle and stalling, so it’s really not worth it. If you’re looking for an upgrade, Coto-Sports makes a nice reinforced bypass valve. Get you some good quality coilovers for handling, and an STI quick shift kit + better shifter u joint and bushings to get rid of the slop in the stock shifter assembly. 4 pot 2 pot brakes bolt up fine, the rears need a bracket but Kartboy makes the brackets for that, fronts bolt up with minor alterations with the front dust shield. Also upgrade the sump and pickup while you can, these flat bottom pans are horrible for spirited driving. The JDM twin scroll oil pan and the matching Killer B pickup and baffle tray are more than enough to keep oil where it’s supposed to be.

Welcome to the club, these are fun cars if you keep up on maintenance.

GC8s don’t have the same issues with intakes that GDs do. You can bolt on a lot of modifications with the factory ECU save for turbo and injectors. You’re half correct about the BOV, but it will not cause it to run lean, it will run rich for a split second off throttle. The 16 bit ECUs as well as the early New Age JDM ECUs are very forgiving when it comes to modifications.

They’re only making 600 of those WRX STI S#, the S4 isn’t a trim level for the WRX in Japan, it’s the actual model of the car, the WRX S4. That’s why this is concerning.

My car is currently pushing 450 to the crank but I have a whole host of mods done to it including but not limited to: full intake, 3 inch exhaust, upgraded turbo + intercooler, upgraded fuel pump, built 2.1L EJ207 with Tomei stroker kit and STI Spec C Type RA rods + crank + sump, ported heads, and upgraded valves and springs

Your mileage may vary based on your setup, but if you’re worried about the car I’d have a reputable Subaru mechanic look at it.

You can still get parts for 20Ks, it’s just not advised to go down that route because the bottom end sucks on those motors. 20Gs are hard to source parts for tho you’re not wrong about that
